Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) has some serious explaining to do in Hollyoaks next week when Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) arrives home to catch him red-handed doing something he shouldn’t be.

Tense scenes unfold for the fan-favourite couple in the wake of their engagement.

What should be a romantic and happy time for the pair is anything but, with Dillon having told Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith) that he no longer loves Lucas and was intent on breaking up with him.

The reason for Dillon’s change of heart? The fact that he’s developed feelings for his boyfriend’s dad Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson), who – despite his claims of not reciprocating such feelings – kissed the young lad last month.

Determined to secure his future with Dillon, an unsuspecting Lucas popped the question this week. After sharing an awkward look with Ste, Dillon accepted the proposal, much to the delight of Lucas.

But with Dillon having secretly resolved to end things for good, a proposal was the last thing he expected. Will he tell Lucas how he really feels?

That remains to be seen but fans can expect more drama for the pair next week, with Dillon catching Lucas red-handed.

The question is: doing what?

The jury is still out on that one but Metro has pictures of the scenes in question and it’s seems the scales fall from Dillon’s eyes by what he’s seen.

Later in the week, Ste tells Lucas that he blames himself for letting him down.

Dillon, meanwhile, arrives at the flat with baby James to see Ste, thanking the chef for being the ‘father figure’ that his son needed.

Is a future on the cards for Ste and Dillon? Or, despite what Dillon says, does his heart still lie with Lucas?

Elsewhere in the village next week…

The search is on for rapist Griff as a power struggle ensues between Sully (Harry French) and Dodger (Danny Mac).

Dodger turns to Donny Clark (Louis Emerick) but Donny urges that he proceed with caution, telling his colleague that Sully is Froggy Black’s (John Middleton) son.

However, Dodger’s antics soon get the better of him, with Sully intervening. Dodger’s boss recommends he build bridges with his colleagues but later Donny find Dodger, who admits that he isn’t coping – and he’s worried he won’t be able to face Griff if they find him. A confrontation between the two ensues, with Sully listening in.

Elsewhere, Diane and Ro Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher and Leo Cole) confront Ant (Brook Debio) on the image of him with a gun. Ant lashes out in response, smashing a vase in the process. Diane demands the passcode to his phone – and is shocked by what she uncovers.

Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe), meanwhile, supports Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) during his physio session – and Tony is heartbroken when he realises she lost the baby.

Ro runs off when he sees Tony struggling, with Mercedes offering support to him as he struggles to accept why anyone would want to shoot his father.

‘I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily that there are no feelings for Lucas – that it’s completely over and completely cut off – because that would be ridiculous after everything they’ve been through,’ actor Nathaniel Dass told Metro last week.

‘But as for now, he feels more for Ste due to the fact he was his sponsor – someone he could relate to and someone he could have real chats with about his problems. I think he felt that Lucas never understood him in terms of what he went through with the trafficking and the drugs.’

Lucas star Oscar Curtis, meanwhile, discussed the possibility of a future for HayRay in the wake of the Ste twist.

‘I think it would be hard for any characters to come back from something like this,’ he said. ‘But whatever happens it will be fun and I think we’ll have fun filming it. It’ll be challenging to play all those emotions at once but it will give us something to really chew on.’
