Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (November 19) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm.

After a month of speculation from fans, Hollyoaks has lifted the lid and answered that burning question, revealing the identity of who shot Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard).

The publican and long-time show legend, as viewers know, was shot during the Channel 4 soap’s high-octane 30th anniversary week, which also saw a plane crash into the village and three regulars lose their lives.

Tony was at the centre of it all as secrets of his past one night stand with Nancy Osborne (Jessica Fox) – and the fact that he’s Morgan’s biological father – exploded on his wedding day to Diane (Alex Fletcher).

When the news was made public, Tony found himself enemy number one with various villagers, with one taking revenge in subsequent scenes, shooting him in the back.

Suspects galore

Despite her husband’s infidelity, Diane has been by his side every step of the way as he recovers in hospital.

Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson), meanwhile, copped the blame for the crime, with his well-documented animosity towards Tony prior to the shooting a key factor in his arrest.

Well, that and the fact that Ant (Brooke Debio) planted a gun in his car, framing him for the crime.

The young Hutchinson’s antics, plus his unsettling comments about women, left Diane accusing her son of being behind Tony’s shooting.

Can't wait for the next twist?

But just who did shoot Tony? It turns out it wasn’t Ant after all – and the truth was soon revealed.

Who shot Tony Hutchinson in Hollyoaks?

The true culprit behind Tony’s shooting was confirmed in Tuesday’s (November 19) edition of the Channel 4 soap, which revealed that Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) pulled the trigger.

Mercedes, as fans will recall, had an affair with Tony earlier this year and subsequently discovered that she was pregnant with his baby.

When Diane uncovered the truth, she forbade Tony from having anything to do with his ex, who turned up on their wedding day to watch the ceremony.

When the plane crashed into the village on the day in question, Mercedes was caught up in the rubble, with Tony forced to choose between Di, Mercy and Marie Fielding (Rita Simons), who were all trapped.

Mercedes subsequently lost the baby and she held Tony responsible for such a thing.

In new scenes, the former pub landlady intervened in a situation between Diane and Darren – but she subsequently told Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) about her role in Tony’s shooting.

Certainly an unexpected twist – and one that will inevitably bring more drama for all those involved! But will her actions be revealed?
