A brand new horror film is out in UK cinemas now, carrying with it a ‘vomit warning’ from one shell-shocked critic.

Directed by Rod Blackhurst, the grisly slasher film Dolly follows a woman (Macy, played by Fabianne Therese) as she’s kidnapped by a masked monster while on a romantic camping trip with her partner.

Dragged off to his isolated shack in the woods, Macy is tied up and subjected to all manner of indignities when the hulking great Dolly (wrestler Max the Impaler) decides to raise her as his infant child.

It also stars American Pie actor and 00s icon Seann William Scott as Macy’s unlucky lover Chase, and My Name Is Earl’s Ethan Suplee as Tobe.

Blending the backwoods horror of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre with the eye-watering gore of the French Extremity movement, it’s not for the faint of heart.

Indeed, one critic has gone so far as to warn that viewers could be in danger of losing their lunch as a result of the stomach-churning gore and violence.

The full review, by Film Ireland, reads: ‘Dolly is the kind of midnight movie that makes you belly-laugh at least once… right before making you regret having a stomach.’

A critic for RogerEbert described it as ‘quite repellent,’ while admitting that, in this case, that ‘can be read as a compliment’.

‘You’ll gasp, you’ll laugh, you’ll scream in disgusted delight at every nasty revelation,’ proclaimed Dread Central, as Filmhounds called it ‘bloody demented from start to finish’.

These scores from critics contributed to a 63% fresh rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, and a positive word of mouth reaction which continues to build.

Fans too have responded well to the film’s grotesque thrills, with Rotten Tomatoes user Sarah describing it as ‘entertaining and gory’.

Victor A and Derrick both picked up on the vibes it was giving off, calling it a ‘great throwback to 70s grindhouse horror films’, and ‘very similar to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies’, respectively.

Dolly marks star Scott’s latest horror film, after appearing in the 2000 franchise-starter Final Destination.

Compared to his relatively bloodless death in that film, the actor is put through the wringer in Dolly.

This includes an uncomfortable facial prosthetic to indicate the horrific injuries his character has suffered at Dolly’s massive, sausage-fingered hands.

Recalling the shoot on location in Tennessee, Scott told ComingSoon.net: ‘I wasn’t thinking about the fact that we were going to be shooting in the woods in Tennessee at night with ticks, like crawling through the woods with this prosthetic on my face.

‘But I think I knew the film was going to be wicked. So it’d be different if I felt like when we were shooting it… “Man, this movie sucks. What am I doing here?” But I knew it was going to be worth it.’

And, according to the film’s director, Dolly could be the just the beginning of horror’s next big slasher franchise.

Quizzed on whether Dolly could join the likes of Freddy, Jason and the Terrifier in slasher franchisedom, Blackhurst told ComicBookMovie: ‘There’s stuff going on in the credits of the film. It’s all there, but I can only do so much with the time and money I have.

He teased: ‘People have asked endlessly, and a lot of people have detected this, and I say, “Come with me. We will go many places together with Dolly.”‘

Hold on to your lunches.
