Sky customers could be entitled to a refund of almost £300 now the broadcaster has axed a major TV product less than three years after it launched.

From next month, Sky Live will be shut down completely.

It was launched in June 2023 as a camera accessory for Sky Glass – a 4K smart, streaming TV.

Thanks to motion sensors and an in-built camera, Sky Live enables users to exercise and play interactive games such as Fruit Ninja and Peppa Pig: Jump and Giggle.

The product monitors posture and technique during home workouts.

It also allows users to make Zoom calls and link up with friends virtually to watch content such as Sky Sports together via camera.

How to claim £290 Sky Live refund

Sky announced on its website that Sky Live will be shut down from December 4.

The company said it will be ‘focusing our investment where it matters most to customers: faster, simpler products, unbeatable content and brilliant service’.

Customers will be able to use their interactive cameras up to December 4.

‘After this date, Sky Live will close, and the product will no longer be supported,’ the company said.

If customers paid for the product up front, they can expect to receive a full automatic refund to their registered payment method within three weeks.

If users pay monthly for the service, Sky said it will cancel the remaining loan agreement and provide refunds for all repayments so far.

But customers do not need to return the product to receive a refund.

Sky said if users want to return their cameras, they can contact the company to receive a pre-paid Royal Mail label.

If customers have the original packaging, they should use this to send their cameras back.

Sky has also encouraged users to recycle their cameras.

Why is Sky Live shutting down?

Sky hasn’t said exactly why the service will be stopped next month.

A spokesperson said: ‘Innovation has always been at the heart of Sky.

‘This year we’ve expanded our Sky Glass range to offer more choice, launched the UK’s fastest broadband speeds from any major provider and continued to invest in making the TV experience even better.

‘Sky Live was part of that journey, and we’re proud of the ambition behind it.

‘It’s given us valuable learnings that are helping to shape the future of our products.’

The spokesperson added that the most popular Sky Live feature was gaming, which is why the company has continued to add more games to its Glass and Stream products.
