I tested Chilly’s new Series 3 bottle for three months – here’s how it compares to Stanley

Ever since Stanley’s hugely popular water bottles landed in the UK, I have never been so hydrated. I own two bottles: a giant Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate Tumbler 1.18L, and a slightly smaller Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw 890ml.

The larger one is permanently filled with crisp, cold water and as many ice cubes as I can fit, for use at home. The smaller one is my go-to when I’m going to the gym, getting on the train, going on holiday, and everything in between.

I would go so far as to say they’ve become my emotional support water bottles, especially for someone who frequently feels car sick. Knowing that my water is always ice cold gives me immediate reassurance, and while they’re very expensive, I’ve definitely got my money’s worth. I love that they keep cold drinks cold for up to 48 hours and keep ice cubes solid for 12 hours.

However, in November, I got my hands on Chilly’s new Series 3 Bottle. Since then, in a bid to see if they can convince me to part with my Stanley collection, I’ve been using the 1-litre and 500ml options in the shade Lotus – a fun vibrant pink colour

After using it every day for three months, here’s my verdict…

What is the new Chilly’s bottle?

Is the latest water bottle from Chilly’s worth the money? Louise investigates. (Picture: Metro/Chilly’s)

The Chilly’s Series 3 is a completely new range of water bottles, and the first drop is these minimalist designs called the Bottle, which comes in three sizes: 350ml, 500ml, and 1-litre.

It has a screw top, promises to be leakproof, has a removable base ring that prevents it from falling over on slippery surfaces, and makes some pretty impressive claims about temperature.

For the 350ml bottle, it claims to keep water cold for up to 24 hours and hot for 12, while the 500ml keeps your drinks cold for up to 36 hours and hot for 17, and finally, the giant 1-litre bottle claims to keep your drinks cold for up to 60 hours or hot for up to 30. For now, it comes in eight different colours: Lotus, Pacific, Opal, Limelite, Cargo, Astral, Steel and Onyx.

How much does the new Chilly’s bottle cost?

The Chilly’s Series 3 The Bottle varies in price, depending on the size. The 350ml costs £25, the 500ml costs £32, and the 1-litre costs £40.

For comparison, the Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate Tumbler 1.18L is £50, and the Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw 890ml is £45, so Chilly’s does emerge as the cheaper option.

Is the new Chilly’s bottle worth the money?

There are lots I love about Chilly’s new launch, firstly, how leakproof the bottles are. The 1-litre is ideal for the gym or long car journeys, while the smaller 500ml is ideal for fitting in my work bag, or carrying to the gym, especially as it has a soft carry loop.

The screw top is very secure; it’s never leaked or dribbled into my bags, and when empty, it is very lightweight. It’s extremely convenient and easy to refill, too. You can screw off the lid, and then screw off a secondary cap, which makes it wider and, therefore, easier to add ice.

I’ve brought it with me on planes, trains, cars, and when walking; I’ve even brought it into a sauna and on a ski slope on holiday, and despite the external temperatures, my water has remained ice cold. That’s because it’s made from high-grade, powder-coated stainless steel. I also love the rubber ring base, which stops it from sliding off train tables and plane seat trays. Functional and aesthetic? Yes please.

Should you switch from Stanley to Chilly’s?

This is one well travelled bottle! (Picture: Metro/Louise Whitbread)

While I’ve been very impressed with Chilly’s new Series 3 launch, there are a few things to consider if you’re thinking of investing in a new bottle.

Firstly, as it’s a screw-top design, the bottle mouth is much smaller than the Stanley tumblers. Even though you can remove the secondary screw top, it’s much harder to fill it with ice, as my standard-size ice cube tray was too big to fit in. If you love ice in your water like me, it becomes a bit of a faff, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Given the smaller bottle mouth, it’s also trickier to hand wash, as you can’t fit your hand inside to ensure you’ve reached every inch, whereas the Stanley bottles I have can easily be cleaned with just a dish sponge and Fairy Liquid.

That said, the large 1-litre Chilly’s Series 3 bottle is closest in size to Stanley’s Quencher H2.0 Flowstate Tumbler 1.18L, which features a straw for on-the-go sipping. I’ve often found this very inconvenient to use outside my house, as it’s not leakproof with the straw in, and I’ve knocked it over multiple times, leaving a huge amount of water pouring onto the floor. Because of this, if you’re looking for a large 1-litre bottle for staying hydrated, Chilly’s would be my top pick.
