An Iranian man, found guilty of espionage and collaborating with Israel, was executed on Wednesday, according to reports from Iranian state media. This event occurs amidst critical nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Iran, engaged in a prolonged covert conflict with Israel, has executed numerous individuals accused of connections to Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, particularly those involved in assassinations or sabotage aimed at disrupting its nuclear program.
The judiciary media outlet Mizan reported that the individual, named Mohsen Langarneshin, faced multiple charges, including involvement in the assassination of a Revolutionary Guards colonel in 2022. State media indicated that during his two years as a spy, he played a significant role in various operations, including supporting terrorist activities and being present during the assassination of Sayad Khodai.
Additionally, he allegedly provided operational assistance for an attack on a defense ministry-affiliated industrial center in Isfahan. Reports from state media mentioned that Langarneshin had admitted to the charges. Reuters was unable to obtain a comment from a representative.
Earlier this week, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi accused Israel of attempting to obstruct Iran-U.S. nuclear discussions, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the notion of restricting Tehran’s uranium enrichment through an agreement, advocating instead for the complete dismantling of its nuclear capabilities.
