Oh, Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness). The EastEnders gift that keeps on giving.
Remember when she rocked up initially? Fierce, fresh and shrouded in mystery? Sweeping Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier) off of his feet and seemingly intent on making Cindy Beale’s (Michelle Collins) life more difficult than…well, than Cindy can do all on her own?
It was briefly teased that she was a member of the shady Ford gangster family, the leader of whom Cindy grassed on, leading Cindy and Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) to track down her adoptive mum.
Said mum made it incredibly clear that Jasmine possessed a deep-seated dark side and is incredibly cruel and insidious. In fact, she seemed utterly terrified of her.
It later became apparent that she was, actually, the long believed-dead daughter of Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) and Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey); her arrival in Walford was engineered solely to make Zoe’s life utterly miserable and, harnessing the evil brain power of the devilishly devious Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman), she launched a terrifying stalking campaign against her birth mum.
When Jasmine found Anthony kneeling over and unconscious Zoe after an argument turned physical, she struck, killing him, before bolting when the heat became a little too intense for her liking.
She allowed Zoe to take the rap for months, though when grandma Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) summoned Chrissie back to Albert Square and they lured Jasmine back together, with her finally admitting that she struck the killing blow.
Things got even more complicated when Jasmine’s twin, Josh Goodwin (Joshua Vaughan), turned up with his mum, Sandra (Dawn Steele) arrived, desperate for answers over what led to Anthony’s death. While being gently pressed by Kim and Denise Fox (Tameka Empson and Diane Parish), Sandra made hints to the darkness that lay in Jasmine’s past, but refused to elaborate on the decision to give Jasmine up after the death of her husband.
Tonight’s trip to Walford saw Kat desperately anxious over taking the stand for Jasmine, despite her very real fears of what her granddaughter was truly capable of. Though both son Tommy (Sonny Kendall) and husband Alfie (Shane Richie) supported her, she was deeply conflicted.
In the face of Zoe’s fear that Jasmine going to prison would drive Josh away, Kat took Sandra aside as both the Slater and Trueman families prepared to depart for court, desperate to learn more about Jasmine.
At the Albert, Sandra finally opened up about her past. Her husband died as a result of a car crash while driving Jasmine to the swimming pool. On a clear day. In a perfectly driveable car. The hints were hinting.
She explained that Jasmine was always deeply troubled and had a history of lashing out, and grabbing steering wheels when people were driving. She recounted arriving at the hospital after the crash to see Jasmine completely devoid of emotion, even after witnessing the death of her father.

Kat, struggling to believe that Jasmine acted in self defence and, after her stalking and hideous treatment of Zoe, was finding it hard to believe she isn’t a stone cold killer and though she rallied back, her resolve was clearly wavering.
Sandra spelled it out for her: Kat had to listen to her gut instinct.
Later, at the court, Kat took to the stand, still conflicted and wracked with confusion, initially tried to present Jasmine in a good light.
As the prosecution slowly but surely turned up the heat, though, she started to wilt, and when the lawyer asked outright if she believed that Jasmine meant to kill Anthony, Kat weakly confirmed.
Is Jasmine just a troubled girl who life has dealt a pretty rubbish hand? Who’s circumstances have led her to this jeopardy-ridden court dock? Or is the darkness that so many people see in her still driving her?
More importantly, if Jasmine does have a taste for blood, who’s next?
