Jess Wright has apologised after facing backlash over ‘disgusting’ comments she made on her podcast about bikinis.
The former TOWIE star, 40, her mother Carol, 65, and sister Natalya. 25, have come under fire in the last week after a conversation on Wright At Home about women’s swimwear, in which they branded thong bikinis ‘unsexy’.
Listeners branded Jess, who has been pictured wearing thong bikinis on social media herself, a ‘hypocrite’ after she claimed her husband Will ‘hates’ the look before her mother Carol said her husband, Mark Sr, finds them ‘unsexy’.
After hundreds of women responded to the backlash, branding it ‘degrading’, Jess took to Instagram on Tuesday afternoon to issue an apology, which was also shared on Carol and Natalya’s accounts.
‘In response to comments we made on our podcast. We’ve listened, we hear you and we want to say sorry…,’ she wrote.
‘Our judgement was wrong and we take full accountability and will do better moving forward. Love Jess, Natalya and Carol’.
In the clip, which has since been removed from the podcast’s social media accounts, Jess is heard saying: ‘I can’t stand how it’s acceptable to walk around on the beach in a thong.’
To which Natalya replied: ‘Do you know what’s worse, these girls who do wear them, fair enough if you’re gonna wear them, at least if you’re gonna bend over and put your towel over your bed, put a sarong on!’
Carol joined the conversation, adding: ‘I really do think this is not sexy for men to look at.’
Jess then shared her husband’s feelings, saying: ‘Will cannot stand it. He says to me: “I cannot understand how she thinks that’s attractive”. Put it away and leave something to the imagination. Who wants to see up their butts.’
Carol urged: ‘Leave something to the imagination! It’s not sexy’, while Jess added: ‘Please girls, wear bigger coverage bikini bottoms.’
The family matriarch then recalled a story from a holiday with her husband, saying: ‘Me and daddy was walking along the promenade and there were three girls in front of us and they were all different shapes and sizes but they had their whole a***s out and daddy was looking and he said: “It doesn’t even look sexy”‘.
The remarks rightfully garnered thousands of responses from women, who took to TikTok to claim the Wright’s were ‘misogynistic’
‘Wear your string bikini because I don’t care if it’s a nudist beach, what you wear is none of Will’s business,’ Michelle Elman wrote.
@NicoleGallagher added: ‘I am a full brief girl because (full disclosure) I’m insecure about my body… but all power to the women who have the confidence (and rightly so) to choose their style of bikini based on what they like and not insecurity!’
While @SJ wrote: ‘Women policing other women’s bodies is always so disappointing.’
Jess, who is the older sister of TV star Mark Wright, got married to husband Will in Mallorca in September 2021. The couple are parents to son Presley, who was born in May 2022.
