John Fury has issued an apology to BBC boxing commentator Steve Bunce for threatening him during Tyson Fury’s comeback press conference this week.
The 60-year-old launched a furious X-rated tirade towards Carl Froch on Monday afternoon, accusing the former super-middleweight world champion of disrespecting him in several interviews.
Fury’s anger lasted for several minutes and after walking away from Froch and Lennox Lewis, who were working as pundits for Netflix, he encountered Bunce standing in the corridor.
‘What are you looking at?’ Fury barked at Bunce.
As Bunce began to reply, Fury took a step closer and shouted: ‘Don’t look at me because I’ll butt your head right in the f***ing nose.’

Bunce then said: ‘I’m your friend, John.’
Fury replied: ‘You’re not my f***ing friend.’
Bunce repeated, ‘I’m your friend, John’, before Fury attempted to enter a room and then continued to walk down the corridor.
Fury has now issued an apology to Bunce but has criticised Netflix’s decision to employ Froch as a pundit for his son’s comeback fight against Russian heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11.
In a video released on Thursday morning, Fury said: ‘I just want to sincerely apologise to Steve Bunce.
‘I’m sorry, Steve. I was bang out of order, I got carried away with emotion, there were people winding me up, these internet trolls and all this kind of thing.
‘Sometimes we’re all human, we’ve got feelings, and it can get to you, especially with a man like me.
‘I’m heartbroken over it, I watched it back, where was I? Emotions were high when people won’t leave you alone, they torment you all the time, 24 hours a day, thinking they’re going to get a paycheck.
‘I think Netflix is out of order even employing Carl Froch and bringing him there, knowing the friction he’s been causing. And he’s a Fury hater, he hates Tyson, he hates the Fury family, why he was there I don’t know, that’s Netflix’s choice, not mine.
‘But again, Steve Bunce, I want to apologise to you, you are my friend, emotions were running high and I do apologise, mate. I’m ashamed of my behaviour towards you, I really am.
‘I hope you accept my apology, Steve. I wasn’t myself as you can see. When you’re in fight mode, you’re in fight mode aren’t you. It is the fight business, it is the fight game, don’t take it too personally my mate, God bless you, Steve, and I’ll buy you a pint of beer and shake your hand and apologise in person. Sorry again, mate.’
In his response to the rant, Froch has offered to fight Fury and has called him a ‘big f***ing bully’.
‘Big John Fury the fighting man. Put some respect on your name. Put some respect on your own name. Grow a set of knackers. You said you know you’re afraid of no man but God,’ Froch said.
‘So get yourself in the gym, get yourself throwing a few punches and start to feel good about yourself. Have a word with Mams Taylor and me and you can do it, we can do it.
‘And I’ll be honest, I’ll take my time with you. I’ll pepper you with a couple of jabs. I’ll hit you with a couple of right hands to the body. And when you fall on the floor, I’ll help you up because that’s what’ll happen. It’ll be embarrassing.
‘You just embarrassed yourself there and you’ll embarrass yourself again. You need to stop doing it. Tyson Fury doesn’t need you and your big gobs**** mouth running around shouting and swearing, being a f***ing idiot in public.
‘It is a complete embarrassment. Please stop it unless you’re going to do something about it. So anyway, that’s enough about big John Fury, a fighting man who don’t want to fight really.
‘That’s enough about him. Big f***ing bully, that’s what he is. And it will come on top for him. And eventually he’ll say the wrong thing or he’ll approach the wrong person.
‘If he came up that platform today, I’d have absolutely volleyed him back down the steps. Mark my words, I’d have volleyed him straight down the f***ing steps.
‘Anyway, I’m not going to go on about it anymore. You can see I’m a little bit annoyed by the cheek of him. But all he’s doing is attention seeking and he’s getting more attention now.’
