‘Levering’ is the sexy side dish that will enhance your sex life

When it comes to female masturbation, penetration can be so much more than just the routine in-and-out motion.

And if you’re looking to spice things up for yourself, then ‘levering’ could be just the technique to add to your arsenal.

Now, it’s not the be-all and end-all of a steamy solo session, but it’s loved by 73% of women in the bedroom.

Simply put, levering is a way to put massage-like pressure on your vaginal walls by moving the tip of the toy at a certain angle, according to sex experts at OMGYES.

These sexperts have said levering is the perfect ‘side dish’ to enhance masturbation, and we asked sex educator and author of Kink Curious Gigi Engle to fill us in.

Why does levering feel pleasurable?

‘Putting pressure on different areas of the vaginal wall can indirectly stimulate the clitoral network which surrounds the vagina,’ Gigi tells Metro.

‘You have the A-spot which is up by the cervix, the C-spot which is the cervix and the G-spot, all of which can enhance pleasure when pressure is applied.’

The sex expert adds that some parts of your vaginal wall may elicit a ‘deeper sensation’ while others might feel like a ‘massage rather than an orgasmic feel’.

This is why it makes a great enhancer for masturbation, but it won’t necessarily get you to the finish line on its own.

When you’re angling a toy to hit a certain spot inside the vagina, it could also feel great on your opening, too.

‘The vaginal opening is fairly nerve-rich, not compared to the clitoris, but it does have nerves, so some people might enjoy a toy pulling down or up on the fourchette (where the labia minora meet at the bottom of the vagina),’ Gigi explains.

How to experiment with levering

Now there are a few different ways you can practice this sex technique, and the first is called pressure pointing.

A sex expert at OMGYES says: ‘With the toy in the vagina and its end sticking out, push down on the end. The internal part presses upwards, like a seesaw.’

This puts pressure on your vagina’s top wall, while stimulating the fourchette, too – a pleasure double-whammy.

You could also try the opposite way, pushing the end of the toy up, so the tip presses down on the bottom wall of the vagina.

The expert adds there’s also a ‘stirring’ motion you can use to apply pressure to various parts of the vaginal wall.

‘Picture a tall cup of soda with a lid and a straw, and then using the straw to stir the ice in the cup: the opening is small and the circle inside is larger,’ they say.

Of course, you’ll be doing this with a sex toy and not a straw. Staying safe is priority number one.

Lastly, you can try curling a curling motion, pushing the toy inwards and upwards, before drawing it back, which the expert adds can stimulate up behind the clitoris for maximum impact.

This is the preferred method of one woman who took part in the OMGYES study. She explains: ‘I hook the curved end of the toy up against my G-spot, then make big scooping motions, like I’m getting the last bit of ice cream in the container.’

Don’t put your body under too much pressure

Of course, certain amounts of pressure can feel pleasurable, but Gigi says there is such a thing as too much.

‘Too much pressure could mean you injure yourself or cause a microtear or actual tear, so listen to your body and make sure it feels good,’ she explains.

The general rule is, if it feels good, it’s probably not causing any damage, but remember that some areas will be more sensitive than others, Gigi reminds us.

‘The vagina is made of very sensitive and delicate skin, so use a good water-based lubricant,’ she adds.

As for which toy is best for this type of thing, the expert recommends The One G-Spot Vibe, which is a wand vibrator that allows for easy levering motions.

‘This type of toy is better because you can root around in there and figure out what feels good for you,’ she says.

Time to get experimenting.
