Lily Allen isn’t missing her chance to have the last laugh following her break-up from David Harbour.
After four years of marriage, the 40-year-old British singer split from the Stranger Things star, 50, in late 2024.
Their relationship breakdown was then followed by intense speculation that it was caused by infidelity on the actor’s part, which was confirmed by Lily when she dropped her bombshell break-up album West End Girl in October.
In the release, she accused her ex of breaking the rules of their open marriage and carrying out an affair with a woman she dubbed ‘Madeline’.
Although Lily has since moved on with Jonah Freud, 28, when she hit the stage for the first show of her West End Girl tour this week, she took a dig at her ex-husband with a literal paper trail of his deception.
While performing the song 4chanStan, which details how she goes through her husband’s bedside drawer and discovers a Bergdorf’s receipt for a luxury handbag, she unveiled a dress printed with giant receipts.
Wearing a blue lace bodysuit and burgundy hot pants, Lily then unfurled a long swat of green fabric that had been placed behind a bed on stage, then wrapping it around herself while singing: ‘You bought her a handbag, It wasn’t cheap, I was in London, Probably asleep.’
Continuing on, Lily then walked to a refrigerator on stage and pulled out more fabric, which was printed with handwritten song lyrics. She then proceeded to wrap it around her head in time for the song’s chorus which singles out a ‘sad, sad man’.
Responding to Lily’s move, many fans declared she was getting the ultimate ‘revenge’ on her ex-husband.
‘I do love this level of pettiness,’ leighalan posted on Reddit.
‘Absolute genius oh my god,’ Catherine shared.
‘So, she literally brought the receipts. It’s absolutely messy, (and she has done some awful things too in the past) but at the same time, being cheated on is sh**** and go, go ahead,’ Curiosities added.
Others said she was ‘milking’ the break-up for her own gain.
In the review of Lily’s first West End Girl show at Glasgow’s Royal Hall, Metro said it was ‘therapy for every scorned woman’.
‘Except this is your penultimate session and you’re finally ready to laugh instead of cry over your awful ex,’ it explained.
‘Lily is in her element being back on stage for the first time in seven years. While it feels like she’s been through the wringer in her personal life, it feels like West End Girl is exactly what she needed to heal.’
Lily Allen: Performs West End Girl is the singer’s fifth headlining tour, which will see 48 shows played across the UK, Ireland US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, where it will wrap up in November.
Prior to meeting David, Lily was married to Sam Cooper – with whom she shares daughters Ethel, 14, and 12-year-old Marnie. The couple were married from 2011 until 2018.
Earlier this year she spoke about the potential of tying the knot again in the future.
‘I’d like to say I’d never do it again, but I do like it. Everything but the institution of it, you know? I like being chosen. I like jewellery. I like getting dressed up. I like celebrating. I don’t like talking about money. I like my independence. But I don’t like divorce,’ she said.
She went on to explain that getting divorced was ‘devastating’ and left her struggling to trust other people.
‘It keeps you up at night and costs a huge amount of money and just goes on and on and on. And I hate feeling like I can’t trust anyone. But there’s something about dealing with an ex-partner and lawyers that creates an environment of feeling like you can’t trust anybody or anything,’ she explained.
In December last year, she was asked about eventually getting back into dating, saying she was: ‘Not really looking to go out with another famous person.’
The following month she was spotted enjoying a romantic dinner with Jonah the great-great-grandson of neurologist Sigmund Freud and nephew of painter Lucien Freud. They were then snapped kissing at a Christmas party she threw before enjoying romantic getaways in Paris and Rome earlier this year.
