Lola Young’s debut into the public eye was a rocky one, with the star already forced to cancel her entire tour when her health was called into question.

Following the release of hit song Messy, Lola was finding her footing in the global spotlight with a particularly vocal social media response.

Stars and fans rallied around the 25-year-old singer after she collapsed on stage and revealed she was struggling with drug addiction.

Turns out, while taking a break from the industry, she got some surprising advice from singer Lily Allen.

Lily, 40, told her: ‘If anyone comes up to you wanting a photo, ask them what three songs they know of yours.’

The Spiders singer told The Times in a new interview that she replied: ‘I can’t do that, Lily!’

While she didn’t want to speak too much about her addiction, Lola confirmed she was doing well after vomiting mid-performance at Coachella.

‘What I would say is that recovery is an ongoing process,’ she shared. ‘I’m not the finished article, but I’m doing a hell of a lot better.’

After two stays in rehab, she is now reportedly living in a holistic facility and attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

She’s protecting her peace more nowadays, having taken a break and admitting she no longer reads the comments on social media.

Her big return was at the Grammys, which the Crush singer said was not planned but worked out perfectly.

‘You never know when the right time is, as an artist, when you’ve taken a break. It was a hard decision to make — I cancelled a whole tour that I was really excited to do,’ she shared.

In another interview, she told Rolling Stone she was glad she had hit ‘a breaking point’ as it had allowed her ‘be able to be here today’.

She added: ‘It allowed me to be better for my fans, better for the future, and better for myself.’

At Coachella in April 2025, Lola was forced to run off stage gagging and feeling like she was going to vomit while performing.

‘Not me doing my first Coachella & gagging & throwing up all the way through the set,’ she wrote on TikTok, adding: ‘It was getting real bad here guys.’

Months later, she collapsed while on stage, writing in a statement: ‘I’m going away for a while.

‘It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future. Thank you for all the love and support. I’m so sorry to let anyone down who has bought a ticket to see me, it hurts me more than you know.’

Since then, Lola has performed at a select few events and is set to play Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend in Sunderland this summer.
