Commuters this morning have been left fuming after London Victoria station was closed due to a faulty escalator.
Early risers were left stranded on platforms after the station, which was busy, told customers just after 6am that it was closed.
People have been encouraged to look for alternative routes to get to work during the busiest time of the day.
Transport for London (TfL) says that while the London Underground station is closed, there is still good service on the Victoria, Circle and District Lines.
Departure boards show that railway services have been unaffected.
Southern Rail said on X: ‘Southern trains are running unaffected by this issue but for travel to and onwards travel from London Victoria, you may need to use an alternative route.’
A National Rail spokesperson said: ‘London Underground have advised that due to an issue with the escalators, the station has been shut until further notice. Specialist engineers are on site trying to resolve the issue.
‘You can use your Southern or Gatwick Express ticket to travel on Thameslink trains between Gatwick Airport and London Bridge, at no extra cost. From there, your London Underground ticket will be accepted, by London Underground, on any reasonable route to your destination.
‘You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.’
