A man has been taken to the hospital after an explosion rocked Wimbledon, south London.

The contents of a van exploded when the vehicle struck the roof of a car park at around 10.05am near Wimbledon station.

The blast, on the busy high street Queens Road, left a man in his 60s with burns.

Paramedics from the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) – who deal with environmental risks – were also dispatched.

The cause of the blast is unclear, but police officials confirmed to Metro that the cause is not terror-related.

Queens Road remains closed in both directions between Princes Road and A219 The Broadway. Bus route 200 is on a detour.
