Martin Lewis has responded to the quote Alan Carr attributed to him in the latest season of Amazon Prime’s comedy phenomenon Last One Laughing.
The second instalment sees another batch of comedians gather for a six-hour face-off to see who can go the longest without laughing.
Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty look on at the funsize house from a sort of surveillance state’s dream scenario, complete with banks of cameras pointed at the squirming cast.
Among them is Celebrity Traitors victor Carr, as well as returning champ Bob Mortimer, deadpan Motherland star Diane Morgan and the underdog contender Sam Campbell, among several others that make up a total of 10.
The gags have been running through the first three episodes, as the stars seek to crack one another’s wobbly poker faces.
Among the volleys batted into the open-plan room, there have been several from Carr, who at one point brought out a tank of helium to help and at another invoked advice from the money-saving expert himself.
Carr told his fellow non-laughers: ‘It’s not who you know, it’s who you blow. Martin Lewis the money man told me that.’
Lewis has now responded on X, taking the joke in his stride after several fans got in touch to ask if he had seen Carr’s comment.
The financial expert tweeted: ‘Many people asking me did I see what Alan Carr said about me on Last One Laughing.
‘I have indeed, I love the show. And I did indeed tell him that, it’s what made me the man I am today!’
In the comments section beneath his tweet, the 53-year-old added: ‘For those who don’t know what this is about. Don’t worry. It’s an inside joke (quite literally in some respects) for those who watch it.’
Last One Laughing has already been doing serious business on Amazon and currently sits at the top of the streamer’s list of top 10 films and TV shows.
Metro's thoughts on Last One Laughing season 2
Read TV Editor Sabrina Barr’s full review here…
Season two is now finally here a year later, and the cast – once again – is stacked.
If the first two episodes of season two have taught me anything, it’s that the minute you think you’ve sussed the outcome of the game, you’ve been completely and utterly fooled.
The surprise standout performer from what I’ve seen so far is Sam Campbell. He’s one of the comedians I know the least, but his outlandish remarks about anything and everything mark him as one of the dark horses to watch in the competition. I had no idea what he was about to say most of the time, and I loved it. Bring on the chaos.
The second batch of three episodes is set to drop next week, where we will see whether Mortimer triumphs a second time around, presumably to fight for his title once again in season 3 (which has already been greenlit and will be filmed this spring).
Last One Laughing season 2 is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
