McDonald’s fans are in mourning after discovering a beloved item has been removed from the breakfast menu.

Before you ask, the McMuffins are safe, but sadly, those who enjoy a Breakfast Roll won’t feel quite the same sense of relief, because the roll is no longer available.

McDonald’s has confirmed it was taken off the menu earlier this month.

For those who weren’t familiar with the product, it featured sausage, egg, bacon and cheese in a soft white roll and was served with either ketchup or brown sauce.

Priced at £4.69, the breakfast bap had been a firm favourite since it first joined the line-up in October 2020, as such fans have hailed the decision to discontinue it as a ‘tragedy’ and shared their upset on social media.

On TikTok, @amymayyyyyy said: ‘They’re getting rid of the Breakfast Roll. This is my final straw.’

While @hurtleskeira begged the chain to ‘BRING BACK THE BREAKFAST ROLL’, adding in the comments of her video that the loss of it is ‘a tragedy’.

Over on Reddit, people felt similarly, with a user known as u/Personal_Ad_9768 posted: ‘Removing the breakfast bagel? An act of aggression. Removing the triple cheeseburger? A show of power. But now removing the breakfast roll… this is surely an act of war?’

Similarly, u/MadeInEngerland wrote: ‘This is how I find out they’ve removed the Breakfast Roll. I don’t go very often but that’s the only thing I really liked any more.’

And u/DomInNameOnly commented: ‘What, there getting rid of the breakfast roll? Noooooo.’

Speaking about the removal of the Breakfast Roll, a McDonald’s spokesperson told Metro: ‘We’re always evolving our menu with our customers in mind to keep things fresh and exciting.’

Metro's thoughts on the loss of the Breakfast Roll…

Metro’s specialist food writer, Courtney Pochin, previously hailed the Breakfast roll as the ‘superior’ choice on the Maccies menu over the Breakfast Wrap, so she’s sad to see it go.

‘It’s a shame that the Breakfast Roll has been axed, as I know it was a go-to for many McDonald’s fans,’ she says.

‘But for those missing their fix, I’ve got a top tier recommendation instead. If you’ve got a Popeyes near you, head on down there and try the Big Cajun Roll.’

The Big Cajun Roll contains a sausage patty, a Cajun hash brown, egg, smoked streaky bacon, and American cheese, all served in a soft brioche bun with Cajun ketchup.

Courtney previously reviewed the roll, saying: ‘I was already a big fan of the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich, but this offering has well and truly tipped the scales in their favour.

‘The Cajun ketchup is what really makes this special. It adds unique flavour that you don’t get from any other fast food breakfast order. If you love a breakfast sandwich, you need to try this ASAP.’

This isn’t the only item that the fast food chain has axed lately.

People were recently left ‘heartbroken’ to discover that the brand new Caramel Loaded McFlurry had disappeared just one week after being launched.

It joined the UK menu on September 10 to celebrate the return of McDonald’s Monopoly game and featured ice cream, caramel cubes, milk chocolate chips and white chocolate coated shortbread pieces all drizzled in caramel sauce.

According to McDonald’s it’s been removed from restaurants due to a ‘quality control issue’, although they did not share what the issue is.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s told Metro: ‘We are aware of a quality control issue relating to the Caramel Loaded McFlurry and can confirm that the item has been removed from our menu.

‘At McDonald’s, we place a strong emphasis on quality control and are disappointed by any instance where we fall short of our standards. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.’
