McDonald’s launches new Meal Deal Plus — with a 59p ‘bonus’ burger upgrade

It’s a new year, there’s a new McDonald’s menu out filled with ‘secret’ items, but it seems that’s not all that’s new at the fast food chain.

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted something interesting on the Maccies app in the form of a new ‘Meal Deal Plus’.

This appears to take the classic £5 meal deal offer that the chain launched back in 2024 and upgrades it for 59p more.

The original deal, which has been removed from the app, allowed customers to get a Chicken Mayo or a Cheeseburger, Medium Fries, a soft drink, and four Chicken McNuggets for just a fiver.

But the new ‘plus’ option allows for a little more choice, as people can swap the fries for either a side salad, pineapple stick or carrot sticks, and you still get a ‘bonus side’.

The best part is that if you aren’t a McNugget fan, your bonus side could be a Hot Apple Pie to round off your meal, or a Mini Oreo or Smarties McFlurry.

Alternatively, those who prefer something savoury have the option of adding a ‘bonus’ burger to the mix – you can have either a second Cheeseburger or a Chicken Mayo.

Add-ons to your burger are available at an additional price, costing an extra £1 to add bacon or 60p for more cheese slices.

And if you’re feeling especially hungry, there’s also a Large Meal Deal Plus option.

Online fans have been sharing mixed feelings about the new meal deal, with many confessing they already miss the old £5 one.

On Reddit, a user known as u/SirWobblyOfSausage said: ‘RIP £5 meal deal. Cheeky to even add it to the new section as well. Should have called it £5 Meal Deal Plus 59p.’

Another user thought it was just McDonald’s being ‘greedy’, and some were simply upset that it wasn’t ‘the same’ as before.

However, others didn’t see an issue and were excited about the new offer.

u/Icedtangoblast pointed out that it was an upgrade, saying: ‘But now instead of automatically getting 4 nuggets as the bonus, you can choose a Cheeseburger or Mayo Chicken. Great deal!’

And over on TikTok, @elliot0elliot told people who were complaining to ‘get a grip’ over a 60p change, while @justme.1994 argued: ‘It’s not just Chicken McNuggets, you can get other things instead, so it’s much better in my opinion.’

@mimikyuisbest agreed the meal deal is ‘so much better now’, and @llovefromemma added: ‘It’s lowkey good, you can upgrade to large and get more bonus options, I’m gassed.’

This comes after the fast food chain added new items to the menu and brought back a few favourites.

The January menu sees Maccies hacks that fans have tried and loved over the years become a reality, with a new Surf N’ Turf burger, a Chicken Cheeseburger, an Espresso Milkshake, and an Apple Pie Mini McFlurry.

If that weren’t enough, the iconic Big Mac Sauce is going to be available in a dipping pot for 20p, so you can dunk your fries or McNuggets to your heart’s content.

Plus, there’s the return of the Chicken Big Mac, the Big Arch burger, Chilli Cheese Bites, The Fajita Chicken One and Galaxy Caramel McFlurry.
