Ndume Emerges APC Consensus Candidate for Borno South Senatorial Seat

Senator Ali Ndume has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the Borno South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ndume, a ranking senator and former Senate Leader, was returned unopposed through an affirmation process during the APC senatorial primary held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday.

His emergence followed the withdrawal of his main challenger, Abdullahi Askira, who stepped down after consultations with party stakeholders in the senatorial district.

Askira, who currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, said his decision was based on appeals from APC leaders and stakeholders across the district.

Speaking shortly after he was declared winner of the primary, Ndume expressed appreciation to APC stakeholders, delegates, and party members in Borno South for their support and confidence in him.

“I want to thank our elders in Borno South Senatorial District for their unwavering support for me,” Ndume said.

“I want to reassure them that I will continue to promote their interest at all times.”

The senator also commended Askira for withdrawing from the race in the interest of party unity.

“I must not fail to commend Hon. Askira who listened to persuasions and appeals of the party leaders and took the decision to drop his aspiration. Your loyalty to the party is exemplary,” he added.

Ndume further urged party stakeholders and members to remain united as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

He called on APC members across the district to continue working together “as one united political family.”

If re-elected in the 2027 elections, Ndume would return to the National Assembly for a record fifth term.
