Untamed hive rise, because the show that stormed Netflix last summer has shared an update on the second instalment

The national park procedural starred Eric Bana as the grizzled special agent Kyle Turner, who endured a dark night of the soul journey through the first season, resulting in his departure from his longtime home in Yosemite National Park.

The second season is now officially set to jump across part of the Pacific to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which encompasses two active volcanoes, and where Turner is set to investigate another mysterious death in the wilderness.

Netflix confirmed the new location in an official statement, with Bana back in the starring role and production already underway in Hawaii on what will be another six-episode season.

The new season will find Turner having visited a number of other national parks in the time since, with the creators sharing that a year and a half will have passed since the prior season and he will have covered a number of cases since then.

‘We’re excited to explore the pristine landscapes and cultural identity of a very different national park, and find Turner in a new state of mind, outside the comfort of Yosemite,’ co-creators and executive producers Mark L Smith (The Revenant scribe, so no stranger to conjuring an unforgiving setting) and Elle Smith told Netflix’s Tudum in a statement.

‘Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity,’ Elle Smith said.

‘Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what’s so fascinating [about] getting to choose a new park.’

They went on to discuss how the park will impact Turner for the show’s second outing, explaining: ‘Our theme has been that this park is our main character, this park is sort of alive.

Metro's thoughts on Untamed

Senior TV Reporter Rebecca Cook shares her take on one of the best crime thrillers of 2025

Untamed at first glance looks like another bog-standard police procedural.

But what puts it head and shoulders above any of the crime thrillers Netflix has offered up so far this year – and more in the league of Broadchurch or Mare of Easttown – is the inventive setting, with a cast singing in perfect harmony.

It’s no easy task Kyle Turner is up against. Trying to enforce the rule of law on this wilderness is a fool’s errand. CCTV is thin on the ground and the forensic experts called in are the type who specialise in vultures that pick over human remains.

As the twists and turns take shape, bringing into question unsolved cases from years gone by, Untamed becomes a show you will struggle to look away from. You will gasp. You will sweat. Good thing there’s already more on the way.

‘We do want to maintain that thread. Whichever park we choose will be a character, and it will play a role in Turner’s emotional frame of mind.’

The show certainly has some shoes to fill, after the first season debuted in the top spot on Netflix’s global list of the most-watched TV shows.

Untamed stayed firmly in the top 10 for seven weeks, earning 92.8million views, according to Deadline
