Niall Horan found out the hard way that building a pub in your own home isn’t the wise idea you think it is.

Last year the former One Direction star, 32, dropped £10,000,000 on luxury, six-bedroom mansion in a leafy west London neighbourhood.

The move from a penthouse apartment also saw Niall settling in with girlfriend Amelia Wooley, who he’s been with since 2020, as well as their dog.

However, this week the singer revealed one major renovation he made to the property – which he now appears to be regretting.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, Niall spoke about his new album Dinner Party.

Asked about hosting his own dinner parties, the musician was then probed about whether he struggles to kick people out once they’ve overstayed their welcome.

‘How do you get people to leave a dinner party at your house?’ he was asked, to which he responded: ‘It’s difficult I’m not going to lie.’

‘We build a pub in the basement, and I mean a pub not a bar. I don’t mean a trolley. But it has to be the worst idea I’ve ever had,’ he revealed.

However, when asked about why he is now reconsidering the decision, Niall explained how many pubs in London shut at 11pm.

‘Last calls are at 10.30 – there’s no 2am finishes like here and people ask, “I wonder where we are going next”,’ he explained.

‘So all of a sudden, I have a house full of people! But I do have a little side entrance where I can just ferry people out of the house. I am actually pretty good at it – I turn the lights on and music off.’

Niall then went on to explain that he also has a piano in the pub and has written ‘a few drunken songs that haven’t made the airways’ in there.

During the interview, Niall also spoke about meeting his partner at a dinner party he hosted, which inspired his album name.

‘It was at my house, and she was a late addition,’ he explained, sharing that one of their mutual friends brought Amelia along.

Although he wasn’t sure if it was a deliberate set-up, he quipped: ‘It worked out in the end, whatever it was.’

‘You don’t see those things as big deals and then you look back and it’s six years later…’

Niall then went on to joke he didn’t cook for his guests and instead probably ordered Uber Eats. ‘It was more of a drinks party,’ he said, before adding his hosting efforts have considerably improved in the years since.

Speaking on The Zach Sang Show recently, Niall also spoke about how his girlfriend – a fashion buyer and marketing professional – inspired several songs on his new album.

Calling her his ‘muse’, he said Amelia ‘did a lot of crying’ when first hearing some of the songs.

He then also shared a rare insight into their relationship.

‘Having someone to rant with and listen to and be listened to is huge. I’m glad I found it,’ he said.

‘And she’s amazing and she’s got her own thing going on. I love the life that we’ve got.

‘We’re also big procrastinators. Friday’ll come and I’ll be like, “Can’t wait for the weekend”, and then Sunday night comes and we’ve done nothing. We spent the whole weekend in the house.’

Dinner Party is due to be released on June 5, with a string of shows across the UK and Europe also already announced.

The tour is set to begin in Birmingham on September 22, with shows then being played in Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow and Sheffield.

He’ll then wrap up the first UK leg at London’s O2 Arena on October 2.

Further shows will follow in cities including Hamburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, Dublin and Belfast.

When announcing the tour dates, Niall shared on social media: ‘I cannot wait to see you all soon. This album was written with the live experience in mind, and I’ve been itching to get back out on the road pretty much since the last tour wrapped. Truly nothing better than looking out from stage and seeing all your beautiful faces.

‘This is the first of many legs of the tour so stay tuned in the coming months for more dates. Things are just getting started!’
