Nigerian Navy Pledges to Enhance Efforts Against Maritime Crime

The Nigerian Navy has vowed to intensify its efforts to combat criminal activities and safeguard the nation’s territorial waters. Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Navy), Rear Adm. Ibrahim Dewu, made this pledge during a Jumaat Service commemorating the Navy’s 69th anniversary in Abuja.

Ogalla emphasized the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace, highlighting its collaborative efforts to ensure national security.

He acknowledged that illegal activities perpetrated by criminal elements are undermining the security of Nigeria’s maritime space. These activities include, but are not limited to, piracy, oil theft, and illegal fishing.

“We have intensified our operational engagements to neutralise these economic saboteurs in our maritime environment with resounding success,” Ogalla stated.

He attributed the Navy’s success to the support of President Bola Tinubu, which has resulted in the acquisition of modern platforms that enhance the Navy’s capabilities and strength.

The Nigerian Navy’s commitment to enhancing its maritime security efforts reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to protect its economic interests and combat transnational crime in the Gulf of Guinea.
