When it comes to advent calendars, we thought we’d seen it all – from Walkers crisps to sex toys and a giant £180 Lindt one.

But it turns out there’s one we hadn’t seen before, as it didn’t exist until this very moment.

For the first time ever, Ferrero is launching a Nutella advent calendar, bringing fans of the iconic chocolate hazelnut spread a little festive joy.

There is a bit of a catch though, as the ‘premium’ advent calendar doesn’t come cheap and will set shoppers back almost £35 (RRP £34.90).

What’s inside the Nutella advent calendar?

Spoiler alert: If you want to keep the contents a surprise, then look away now…

But if you’re wondering what you get for that money? We’re sorry to say that you won’t find a full-size jar of Nutella inside.

However, there are seven mini 15g portions of the spread behind the doors, as well as four packs of Nutella biscuits, seven Nutella B-ready bars, two Nutella & Go pots and four festive extras.

The festive extras include Nutella socks, a Christmas tree decoration that looks like a jar of Nutella, a luggage tag and a Nutella-themed Domino card game.

Those keen to get their hands on the calendar can do so online via Amazon.

This comes after Ferrero recently launched a brand new plant-based version of Nutella, which is made using a rather surprising ingredient – chickpeas.

The vegan-certified Nutella, which features a green lid, boasts the same ‘flavour and creaminess fans know and love’ but has been ‘specially crafted to offer a delicious new choice, blending Nutella’s signature roasted hazelnuts and cocoa with plant-based ingredients like chickpeas and rice syrup’.

Currently the only place you can find the spread is in Sainsbury’s supermarkets, as a full roll out of the product isn’t planned until 2026.

I gave the spread a try to see how it compares to the regular stuff and I was pleasantly surprised by it.

I was worried initially that it wouldn’t be as creamy or as sweet as the OG, but I was proved well and truly wrong. Despite containing some unexpected ingredients, it tastes almost identical to the original version and looks just as good too.

If you spread it on toast and handed it to me without saying a word, I honestly don’t think I’d be able to tell. It smells the same, is super creamy and delicious.

The only subtle difference is that the plant-based Nutella is slightly less sweet that the original, meaning it tastes nuttier.
