A South Korean navy maritime patrol aircraft crashed near a military base in Pohang, a city in southern South Korea, on Thursday, the navy said.
The crash occurred at 1:43 p.m. local time (0443 GMT), according to a navy statement.
The South Korean navy is currently investigating the cause of the accident and working to confirm the number of casualties. There were four people on board the aircraft.
Earlier reports from Yonhap News Agency indicated that the plane crashed in a mountainous area on the east coast, citing official sources.
A civilian witness reported seeing smoke emanating from the crash site, according to Yonhap.
