Sowore: AAC Is A Platform For Revolutionary Change

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, says Nigeria needs what he described as a “revolutionary change” to tackle insecurity, hardship and governance challenges ahead of the 2027 election.

Speaking during an interview with ARISE News on Thursday, Sowore said the AAC remained committed to changing Nigeria’s political and economic system through what he called a non-violent revolution after he secured the party’s presidential ticket.

He rejected suggestions that the AAC was built around him alone.

“It’s our party, it’s not my party. It’s a party platform for revolutionary change,” he said.

Sowore said Nigeria was already facing instability and hardship under the current political system and argued that his movement was offering a different direction.

“It’s going to be order. It’s going to be prosperity, peace and progress,” he said.

The former presidential candidate also questioned the credibility of elections in Nigeria, saying the country was not conducting transparent polls.

“You can’t break through using the ballot boxes and papers when they’re not credible,” he said.

Sowore said his party would continue pushing for electoral reforms while mobilising Nigerians to defend their votes.

He also dismissed criticism that the AAC had failed to build a national structure, saying the party had survived political pressure and legal battles since 2019.

“Our party was even taken away from us in 2019. It took us three years to get it back at the Court of Appeals,” he said.

On the economy, Sowore defended his proposal to nationalise strategic sectors, arguing that some private investors had benefited unfairly from public assets.

“The investors that come to Nigeria are here to rip Nigerian people apart,” he said.

He also spoke on insecurity, saying his government would combine military action with technology and job creation.

“We have to use technology. We have to have honest leaders and supervisors and officers,” he said.

Sowore added that he would focus heavily on technology in tackling terrorism and banditry.

“If I become Nigeria’s president tomorrow, my minister of defence will be a drone,” he said.

He maintained that he was contesting to win the 2027 presidential election despite the dominance of larger political parties.

“I’m here to win,” Sowore said.
