Greg James’ face was a picture when he realised live on-air that he had landed himself an invite to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.
While on BBC Radio 1 promoting her new album The Life of a Showgirl, Taylor earnestly said the presenter would meet Travis at the wedding.
Greg, 39, looked dumbfounded as she dropped that casual invite to what will undoubtedly be the biggest event of the year.
‘The other thing I was going to say to you is, you and I have known each other for so long – longer than Travis has known you,’ he began. ‘I just need to check, cause the vibes are strong from him.
‘I think he seems like a great guy, but I need to check for sure. I just want to play catch with him.’
Taylor, 35, said: ‘No, he would do that – you’ll love that. All of my guy friends are like, “I just want Travis to like pick me up and throw me over a roof or throw me in the pool, cause it’s like, you know he’s 6’6’’, but the width of the shoulders is also, like, seeing him walk through a door is genuinely a privilege.’
Joking Greg said he’d just like Travis to ‘do a wrestling move’ on him to which Taylor replied: ‘The way that he’s going to do that as soon as he sees you at our wedding, that’s gonna happen.’
The radio host’s jaw dropped as he interrupted and said: ‘Woah woah woah, am I coming?’
‘Obviously’ came the Fate of Ophelia singer’s reply, looking a little surprised that her friend wouldn’t think he made the cut.
She explained: ‘People don’t think that we’re actually friends, remember when you were like joking with me at the show we did about being sweaty and people thought it was a greatly offensive thing.’
When Taylor played Big Weekend in Swansea in 2018, Greg was the host and had joked that she would ‘need to have a shower’.
Unfortunately for Greg, the video still haunts him ‘every day’ despite thinking it ‘might go away’.
Taylor did want to ‘correct people’ but thought it might make things worse and Greg would ‘hate that even more’.
‘No I didn’t hate it – I quite enjoyed being cancelled for fun,’ he replied, with the singer calling it ‘the funniest way to be cancelled’.
She added: ‘For like making a joke about me being sweaty after a very sweaty performance.’
Bringing it back to the nuptials, the host said: ‘I don’t usually like a destination wedding but for you I’d make an exception’
‘Sick,’ replied the Grammy-winning star before Greg probed for more information, which she was reluctant to share while on air.
‘I’m gonna let you know at a different time,’ she deflected, to which he replied: ‘Okay not on the radio – that’s fine.’
Realising he hadn’t actually responded to the invite, Greg sweetly added: ‘But it’s a yes please, and thank you.’
Not much is known about the wedding, except that it will likely be a gathering of some of the biggest names on the planet.
While on Heart, just minutes later, Taylor revealed to Emma Bunton she hadn’t been planning this moment forever.
She shared: ‘You’d think I’d be the type of person who would have obsessed over the idea of a wedding my whole life, but I actually never thought about what I would do, what I would want, until I met the person.’
That also included the hen party, with the Father Figure singer adding it was ‘the first time I’ve thought about that.’
