Here we are again, folks. The days might be getting a little longer, but there’s no escaping the fact it’s cold and wet outside, giving Netflix subscribers all the excuses they need to cosy up in front of a few good movies. And as usual the weekly global most-watched chart is a bit of a mixed bag, as comedies, compelling true crime features and a few of the streaming platform’s homegrown blockbusters compete with family-friendly hits guaranteed to keep younger viewers hooked. The question is: will The Investigation Of Lucy Letby manage a second week at number one? And will KPop Demon Hunters’ seemingly eternal stretch in the top five continue? Read on to find out… (Picture: Perry Well Films 2/Courtesy Netf)

Valentine’s Day might be over for another year but romance is still in the air around Netflix’s way courtesy of this South African offering that kicks off this week’s countdown. The story revolves around the unlucky-in-love Thando, who’s forced to confront her own feelings when her best friend returns from his travels abroad – with a fiancee in tow. Can you guess how this one unfolds? Probably, but romcom fans will enjoy it anyway. (Picture: Netflix)

Here’s another one guaranteed to appeal to romantics everywhere. Based on the Japanese novel Even If This Love Disappears From The World Tonight, it tells the story of a high school girl who wakes up each day with no memory of the day before – something which proves quite the challenge when she agrees to date a shy classmate. It’s a premise that’s been done before – think the Adam Sander/Drew Barrymore comedy 50 First Dates for example – except this one will tug at your heartstrings a whole lot more. (Picture: Netflix)

The first big Netflix blockbuster of 2026, this Matt Damon/Ben Affleck action thriller might be sliding down the chart but it’s still on track to become one of the biggest movies of the year. The film, based on a true story, sees Damon and Affleck playing Miami cops who are part of a team that discovers a stash of what appears to be $20million in a safehouse. They have to count the money before they can leave the scene, but also have to survive the night as suspicion sets in. (Picture: Claire Folger/Netflix)

7. Overboard – 5,100,000 views

Film, 'Overboard' (2018) Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris
Ever feel like we’re drowning in remakes these days? Because here’s another. Overboard is a present-day, role-reversal reboot of a 1987 comedy starring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, with Anna Faris as a single mum who takes a job cleaning carpets for spoiled playboy Leo (Eugenio Derbez). However, when he falls from his yacht and wakes up with no memory of his wealthy life, she manages to convince him they’re actually husband and wife. All manner of mayhem ensues, and while, like the original, it’s pretty predictable, it’s still engaging enough. (Picture: Diyah Pera)

6. KPop Demon Hunters – 5,700,000 views

Can it possibly be true? Yes folks, set faces to stunned, because KPop Demon Hunters has finally fallen out of the top five. To be fair though it’s still pulled in over five million viewers over the past seven days, suggesting this Netflix behemoth – which has dominated the charts for the past 35 weeks – isn’t disappearing any time soon. Just in case you still haven’t seen it, the film follows the fictional K-pop band Huntr/x, who, by day, sell out stadiums and perform in front of their millions of fans. But by night, they’re demon hunters who save the world from supernatural danger. Which is handy when a strange new boyband appears on the scene… (Picture: Netflix)

5. How To Train Your Dragon – 6,100,000

Into the top five we go, starting off with one of 2025’s biggest box office hits. How To Train Your Dragon, a live-action remake of the 2010 animated film, follows the friendship between a Viking boy named Hiccup and a dragon named Toothless, who have to spring into action when an ancient threat emerges which endangers both their species. The likes of Gerard Butler and Nick Frost show up in this one – and given how popular it was it’s no surprise that a sequel is already in the works. (Picture: AP)

4. The Investigation Of Lucy Letby – 6,600,000

Last week’s number one has slipped down to fourth position but the viewing figures suggest that this true crime documentary is still keeping viewers gripped. The feature takes a deep dive into the case of former neonatal nurse Lucy Letby, who was found guilty in 2023 of murdering seven infants and attempting to kill seven more between June 2015 and June 2016 at the Countess of Chester Hospital. As online discourse over the verdict continues to divide people, the documentary examines the case via unseen footage and unheard insider accounts. While compelling, the film hasn’t been without controversy, from its use of AI to disguise the identity of some interviewees through to her parents blasting it as a ‘complete invasion of privacy.’ (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)

3. A Father’s Miracle – 7,300,000 views

The next new entry this week comes courtesy of this Mexican drama, picking up some pretty impressive viewing figures in its first few days of release. The film is about a devoted father with a neurological disability who is wrongly accused of a crime he didn’t commit and is shipped off to a secret, hidden prison. With his daughter left to fend for herself after he is incarcerated, can she prove his innocence? (Picture: Netflix)

2. State Of Fear – 8,000,000 views

Taking the runner-up spot this week is this Brazilian thriller which is off to a flying start. State Of Fear, a spin-off of the 2019 Netflix crime series Brotherhood, is set in Sao Paolo and sees the gang members facing a crisis as key members are transferred to maximum security prisons. When the daughter of one of the founders is kidnapped by corrupt police, it’s down to her aunt Cristina – a lawyer with criminal ties – to rescue her. A violent, super-intense watch, this one’s a must-see if you liked the original series. (Picture: Netflix)

1. Joe’s College Road Trip – 12,500,000 views

Given the popularity of Tyler Perry’s Madea films, it’s no surprise to see that the latest in the writer/director/actor’s ongoing series has slammed straight into the charts at number one. This one is the first ever standalone film for Madea’s cantankerous brother Joe, taking a road movie format as he heads cross-country with his college-bound grandson in a bid to teach him about the real world. The potty-mouthed language and raunchy humour may have some viewers clutching their pearls in horror but if you’ve enjoyed the previous films in the franchise you’re going to love this.
