From strolling by the Seine to wandering the Champs-Élysées and seeing Notre Dame, tourists aren’t exactly short of things to do in Paris.

But the highlight of any trip to the French city is often seeing the Eiffel Tower – especially at night, when it’s all lit up and sparkling.

If you’re planning a Parisian getaway soon, you might be thinking of venturing up the iconic landmark to take in the stunning views from the top.

However, those visiting before May will have the chance to do something incredibly rare and actually walk across the middle of the Eiffel Tower.

That’s because a temporary suspension bridge is in place, allowing people to walk between two pillars of the first floor.

Known as Vertigo of the Tower, the unique experience was first launched in 2025 and is now back for a second season in 2026, until May 3.

A post on the official social media page for the Eiffel Tower claims it’s the highest urban bridge in France, and it’s located right at the heart of the tower.

According to the Eiffel Tower website, the bridge is ‘securely held by a network of cables and protected by several layers of netting, totaling more than 25,000 meshes’.

However, this hasn’t made people feel confident about crossing the bridge, as online some have branded it ‘absolutely terrifying’.

In response to a video about the bridge on TikTok, @h.perez6129 said: ‘Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.’

While @laura_posse wrote: ‘Nope – the stairs were scary enough.’

Similarly, @anxiousadventure commented: ‘I was absolutely terrified when I went to the highest observation deck on the Eiffel Tower, I would not do this lol.’

And @georgesvgigi added: ‘That’s a no from me dawg.’

Not everyone felt this way, though, as others thought the bridge looked ‘cool’ and ‘fun’.

A few of those who tried it in 2025 also hailed the experience as ‘thrilling’ and ‘completely safe’, with ‘breathtaking views’.

For those who are keen to give it a go, the good news is that it’s free to try if you’ve paid for an Eiffel Tower ticket.

Prices for tickets start from €14.80 for an adult to take the stairs to floor two, which is around £12.80, and rise to as much as €36.70 for an adult elevator ticket to the summit (£31.75).

Where to see the Eiffel Tower sparkle

The tower ‘sparkles’ for five minutes at the start of each hour between dusk and 11pm, with the magical effect being created by 20,000 low-power bulbs, flashing rapidly.

It’s truly a mesmerising sight to behold, and one that I had the pleasure of witnessing several times during a recent trip to France’s capital city.

The best part? I found a spot where you can enjoy spectacular Eiffel Tower views without having to deal with crowds of tourists all competing to get the perfect photo.

To get the amazing views, you’ll need to head to the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine. This is a museum of architecture and heritage, located at 1 Pl. du Trocadéro and 11 Novembre.

Once inside, head towards the back where you’ll find Girafe restaurant, you’re going to head up in the elevator to La Suite Girafe, which has been dubbed Paris’s ‘best-kept secret’.

Located on the ninth floor of the museum, the upstairs space has an outdoor terrace area that boasts magical views of the tower and the rest of the city. It seats up to 100 people for lunch and dinner, and was previously the apartment for the museum’s curator in the 1930s.
