The EU Seeks Proof of Russia’s End to Hostilities in Ukraine.

The European Union responded cautiously on Saturday to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a unilateral 30-hour ceasefire for Easter in Ukraine, emphasizing that Moscow could end the conflict immediately if it chose to do so.

“Given Russia’s history as an aggressor, we need to witness a genuine cessation of hostilities and concrete actions towards a sustainable ceasefire,” stated Anitta Hipper, the European Commission’s chief spokesperson for foreign affairs and security.

Hipper also noted that it has been over a month since Ukraine accepted an unconditional ceasefire.

“Russia has the ability to end this war at any time if it truly desires to… We remain committed to supporting Ukraine in achieving a long-lasting, just, and comprehensive peace.”
