The latest season of Married at First Sight Australia hits screens tonight – and as always, there’s no shortage of drama.

In the years since the Aussie’s version of the reality TV series hit screens over a decade ago, the brides and grooms have been at the centre of jaw-dropping moments – think almighty blow-outs, cheating scandals and a string of fiery dinner parties.

But this time around one marriage could be over before it’s even begun after the bride declares she doesn’t actually want to marry the man she’s just walked down the aisle to meet.

In an exclusive clip from tonight’s episode we see Alissa, a 33-year-old nurse and social media manager from South Australia meet her new husband David, a 31-year-old E commerce product manager from Queensland.

The ceremony begins with the celebrant welcoming the new couple and their families to the ‘very special occasion’.

As he starts his speech about marriage being a commitment that calls for ‘openness and vulnerability’, Alissa starts to breathe heavily and appears to be trying to calm herself down.

‘This moment marks the beginning of a brand-new chapter in their lives, as they step forward into this journey together,’ he continues.

The camera then cuts to the bride looking to one of her bridesmaids for support, who then tells her she can ‘do it’ while nodding and smiling.

After the celebrant then asks if any person present objects to the union, Alissa looks down before emotionally telling her groom: ‘I’m really, really sorry.’

With David looking confused and the bridesmaid also looking floored by what is unfolding, the bride then tells her groom: ‘I don’t think I can marry you.’

Attempting to take the bombshell in his stride, David starts nodding and can only say: ‘Yep.’

The camera then pans to the guests at the wedding, who are equally as shellshocked and waiting to find out what is about to unfold – with all to be revealed on tonight’s episode.

With the couple the first to wed this season, has Cupid already hit and miss?

Ahead of the episode, Alissa has been described as a ‘loyal and confident cheerleader who shows up wholeheartedly for the people she cares about’.

‘She wears her heart on her sleeve, and though she never expected to be here, re-entering the dating world has been a challenging new chapter,’ it’s been shared.

Last year her six-year relationship ended after her ex refused to commit. While she doesn’t believe in a ‘perfect man’, Alissa is ready to commit to someone who shares her ambition, communicates with honesty, builds trust, and wants the same future she does.

She is also drawn to a tall, dark and handsome partner who is ready to open up, build a family and grow together.

Meanwhile David, who was born in Nigeria and moved to Australia aged 12, is searching for a woman who lives with faith or accepts his faith and is respectful.

He’s not shy of female attention, with women ‘constantly sliding into his DMs, attracted by his looks and his history of being a rapper’. However, women often misjudge David, thinking he is a playboy.

Although his chiselled physique and swagger could suggest he’s a playboy , David is instead described as being principled, respectful, and ready to settle down.

Despite his efforts, David has never been in a relationship that has lasted longer than a year but is putting his faith in the experts and the MAFS experiment.

Married at First Sight Australia returns tonight at 7.30pm on E4. It will also be streaming on Channel 4.
