It can seem like men and women aren’t quite aligned in the bedroom when it comes to what gets us off.
Ladies have confessed to adoring cowgirl, while men don’t sing its praises, instead gushing over the same position in reverse.
But there’s one sex position that has both guys and gals achieving that much desired climax more often than any other: doggy style.
Nearly half of Brits (47%) have confessed it’s their favourite go-to position, according to Superdrug Online Doctor, and it’s had rave reviews.
For 21% of men and 14% of women, it’s the one that makes them orgasm the fastest, citing the intensity and physical stimulation as the ultimate combo.

When it comes to why women specifically enjoy doggy style, there’s an over-riding theme. It hits that spot.
‘It gives me the most intense G-spot stimulation of any position,’ shared one woman on Reddit.

‘Hits some great spots,’ added another. But it’s not just that prized G-spot that’s being stimulated, being on all fours means easy access for other pleasure centres, too.

Sex expert Gigi Engle previously told Metro how to find the G-spot (or wider G-region).
‘It’s the back end of the clitoris, more specifically the structural intersection of the vagina, the urethral sponge, and the clitoris,’ she explained.
‘The clit actually reaches inside the body back towards the anus, and you can find it by hooking up with your fingers behind the pubic bone and feeling for a walnut textured area, that’s the spot.’
By constantly stimulating this area with a penis, sex toy, or your fingers, you can reach orgasm. If you’re in doggy, the penis will likely be rubbing on top of this area, making it pretty orgasmic.
And while preferences on the depth and the angle of penetration will be unique to every woman, many shared doggy style allowed for the perfect combination.
‘The angle of penetration is just right,’ one said. ‘It’s deep but not too deep. I feel exposed. I love when my tits jiggle from his thrusting, and it’s a hot sensation.’
And when it comes to men…
While men had a slightly different outlook on why doggy style was the best position for an orgasm, they also felt the angles and depth allowed for a heightened experience.
‘It’s easy to achieve balls-deep penetration in that position,’ wrote one.
Another shared: ‘Men like doggy because we are in control of the pace, how deep we are going, how hard.’
But there was another contributing factor to why men are so fond of doggy style, that isn’t really mentioned by women. Men enjoy being large and in charge.
‘Someone bent over like that and me f**king them is not me having sex with them, it’s me f**king them while they take it. It’s raw, dominating and hot,’ one guy explained.
‘It feels very dominant taking someone from behind, it’s a big turn on for me,’ added another, while one shared: ‘Raw, primal, animalistic. I’m in total control. Love it.’
Other men also said it was the visual element of doggy which allowed for a speedier climax.
‘Seeing myself going in and out of you is probably the biggest plus for me,’ one guy mentioned.

The hidden risk to doggy style
It turns out that while men and women might love being on all fours, this sex position is actually the riskiest, too.
A recent Lovehoney study found that doggy style was the position that saw more than half of Brits sustain a sex injury.
Wrist injuries and carpet burns are the most common traumas sustained, and Annabelle Knight, Lovehoney’s psychosexual therapist said part of the issue is that ‘the giver needs to be careful where they’re placing their weight to avoid straining the receiver’s wrists’.
To avoid it, she recommends ‘maintaining an upright posture instead of resting down on the receiver will relieve that pressure, adding, ‘the receiver, instead of resting on their hands, can then rest on their forearms instead.’
In terms of friction burns, the advice is to stick to the bed rather than getting down (literally) on the floor, or at the very least to place a soft blanket underneath you beforehand.
