Sam Thompson’s position in the ITV firmament has been locked in ever since his I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! win.
But the reality star has now shed some light on his addition to the This Morning sofa, where he offers weekly dispatches on the world of celebrity.
The 33-year-old former King of the Jungle has said he was pulled aside to receive some feedback on his appearances every Thursday.
Thompson said he got the summons from the This Morning boss, who he described as a ‘lovely guy’, to have a chat in his office. He didn’t specify exactly who he was referring to, but the This Morning editor is Vivek Sharma, who took over the job from the longtime head honcho Martin Frizell.
Speaking to Pete Wicks on their Staying Relevant podcast, Thompson said: ‘He was like “I think you’re doing great, I just want to go through where I think we’re doing well, where I think we can improve”.
‘I love to hear it, I want to know where I can improve.’
The former Made in Chelsea star went on to admit that he thought he was in store for a dose of pure praise for his efforts.
He admitted: ‘I went in [thinking] so it’s going to be a little bit of negative, but probably mostly positive.
‘He sits down and goes, “Sam, I think you’re doing a phenomenal job, these are the things I think you could be better at”.
‘Spent the entirety of the thing being like, “So this bit, I don’t know what you’re doing”. That’s quite savage reviews!’
He continued: ‘It went on for about half an hour, by the end of it I’m white as a sheet, I’m, like, shaking. He goes, “Anyway mate, smashing it”, and then walks out.’
Although the chat wasn’t quite what Thompson had envisaged, he went on to say that he appreciated the feedback and had taken it on board.
He explained: ‘These kinds of reviews actually do help, because I then did take on board what he said and I did actually do a little bit better. He said that the art of the segue could do with a little bit of panache.’
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
