Thomas Tuchel is reportedly set to put pen to paper on a contract extension as head coach of England, taking him beyond the World Cup and through to Euro 2028.
According to The Times, news of Tuchel’s renewal could be officially announced ahead of today’s draw for the 2026/27 Nations League.
It’s claimed Tuchel is ‘excited by the prospect’ of steering England into this summer’s World Cup and into a home European Championships in two-and-a-half years’ time.
The extension is expected to run through to the conclusion of the 2028 championships, which will be co-hosted by Scotland, Wales and Ireland, with Wembley set to stage both semi-finals and the final.
The FA have been keen to remove any risk of uncertainty over Tuchel’s position seeping into the squad and damaging the side’s hopes of progressing into the latter stages this summer’s tournament.
The German, formerly the manager of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, was initially contracted to lead the Three Lions until the end of this year’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Tuchel has been heavily linked as a possible candidate for the permanent Manchester United job should the club move away from interim boss Michael Carrick at the end of the season.

The 52-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding start to his reign with England, who finished as the only European nation with a 100 per cent record in qualifying for the World Cup.
Harry Kane and Co sailed through with a ten-point advantage at the top of UEFA Group K, netting 22 times without conceding a single goal from their eight matches.
Tuchel was announced as Gareth Southgate’s long-term successor back in October 2024 and officially began work in the position on January 1 2025.
Lee Carsley had been appointed as caretaker boss following England’s runners-up finish at Euro 2024 under Southgate, leading the Three Lions to five victories and a defeat in his six games in charge.
In November, Tuchel opened the door the possibility of staying on as England manager beyond the World Cup.
He also indicated that his future would not necessarily be determined by whether or not the men’s team were successful in their pursuit of a first major trophy since 1966.
‘It will be a huge distraction if I give you a certain level that is a minimum demand to myself,’ Tuchel told reporters ahead of England’s double-header against Serbia and Albania.
‘I have this in my head clearly. Maybe we can talk openly about it before the World Cup, because why not? Then there is another level to it.
‘There is a certain state we have to reach that I demand from myself. Otherwise, it’s not good enough.
‘I think we all understand that when it comes to knockout football it’s: “How do we go out?”
‘It’s different if we lose 3-0 in a round of 32 to a huge underdog and we completely underperform, or you lose with a red card in the second minute for the goalkeeper and you go out and you put up a big fight in a quarter-final and you go out on penalties and play 120 minutes with ten men.’
