At least four people including a firefighter have died after fire ripped through bamboo scaffolding surrounding high-rise apartment buildings in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district.

Video from the scene showed an intense and rapidly burning fire, with multiple plumes of smoke reaching into the sky from the Wang Fuk Court housing estate.

The blaze was reported in the afternoon and upgraded to the second highest level of severity, the city’s Fire Services Department said.
