Spice Girls icon Melanie C made it clear she won’t be discussing the recent Beckham drama amid an awkward interview moment this Friday.
The pop star, of course, rose to fame alongside Victoria Beckham in the 90s girl group and has remained close friends with her bandmates.
Just recently, in fact, Mel, Victoria, Emma Bunton, and Geri Horner reunited for Baby Spice’s 50th birthday celebrations, marking VB’s first sighting since her eldest son’s brutal social media takedown.
And when the sensitive topic came up during a live radio interview to promote Sporty Spice’s new music, she was quick to shut it down.
Appearing on Heart Breakfast today after releasing her single What Could Possibly Go Wrong?, Mel spoke to Amanda Holden, who expressed her sadness over the family rift, which saw Brooklyn accuse parents David and Victoria of ‘controlling’ him and ‘disrespecting’ his wife, Nicola Peltz.
Mentioning the Spice Girls’ 30th anniversary, Amanda, 54, said: ‘I keep reading in the papers about this Spice Girls reunion.
‘I’m not going to talk to you about anything else.
‘I’ve actually banned talking about the Beckhams on this show because I’m heartbroken for them.
‘So, we won’t be talking about that.’
Mel, 52, nodded along in agreement, looking down with a straight expression as she chimed in: ‘We won’t be talking about that.’
‘We will be talking about the fact that it’s 30 years coming up,’ Amanda continued, swiftly moving the conversation along. ‘And there has to be a reunion, surely?’
‘Well, this is the thing. If you remember, looking back to 2019, when we did our stadium tour, Victoria wasn’t with us. So she has to have that experience,’ Melanie responded, with the fashion designer being the only member not to rejoin the band that year, opting to focus on her family and business instead.
‘I’m sure lots of your listeners out there saw the picture from last weekend; we were celebrating Emma’s birthday. We missed Melanie B. She wasn’t there, sadly, but the four of us were there, and it was so lovely,’ the singer continued, referencing the Insta post that sent fans into a frenzy as Victoria broke her silence.
‘It was a big birthday, so you feel very nostalgic, so we’re probably closer now than we have been in a very long time, and I’m always keeping my fingers crossed,’ she then said of a potential comeback.
According to sources, since Brooklyn, 26, launched a shocking attack on ‘Brand Beckham’ last week, the Spice Girls ‘have been rallying around Victoria’ due to it being a ‘really emotional time for her’.
‘Emma, in particular, has been showing her a lot of love and support; even on her 50th birthday, she took the time to check in and see how she’s managing,’ the insider added to Metro. ‘They’ll continue to be there for her throughout this ordeal.’
They explained that the girls ‘know Victoria well and understand she must be feeling embarrassed and devastated over Brooklyn’s statement, especially that he aired it so publicly for the world to see’.
‘After all, they’ve been there throughout Brooklyn’s life, so can’t help but feel upset over this turn of events.’
In his statement, Brooklyn declared that he ‘does not wish to reconcile’ with his family following a year of speculation about a potential estrangement, which was sparked when Brooklyn and Nicola were no-shows at Sir David’s 50th bash.
He went on to claim that his mum pulled out of designing the actress’ wedding dress ‘at the eleventh hour’ before dancing on him ‘inappropriately’ during the celebrations, while his footie legend father ‘refused’ to see him unless Nicola was uninvited.
Vowing to ‘tell the truth’ and ‘stick up for [himself]’ at long last, Brooklyn declared defiantly that his focus is on his wife and their own future kids.
Meanwhile, neither Sir David nor Victoria has commented on his statement or the allegations that the tight-knit unit ‘values promotion above all else’.
However, it has been reported that Victoria especially feels ‘betrayed’ by her son’s actions, having spent years ‘protecting him from dark stories’ as he grew up in the spotlight.
Nevertheless, Sir David and Victoria and their three other children – Harper, 14, Cruz, 20, and Romeo, 23 – are maintaining a united public front, stepping out in Paris earlier this week for Haute Couture Fashion Week.
The high-profile occasion also saw Victoria become a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, which she called an ‘honour’ in a subsequent Insta post.
‘My sincere thanks to the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati for this honour. Thank you also to business partners who believed in me, my family, and especially David — my husband, and original investor. I couldn’t be more grateful, you are my everything xx’, she wrote.
Brooklyn remains in the US with Nicola, where they, too, have kept up appearances with lovey-dovey online posts, issuing no further comment on personal matters as the storm rages on.
