Police believe the 84-year-old mother of American TV host Savannah Guthrie has been abducted from her home in Arizona.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing midday on Sunday – she left her property without her vital medication, phone, wallet and car.
Family members raised the alarm after she didn’t turn up for church on Sunday.
She was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday night.
It is thought by detectives that she was taken against her will during the early hours.
Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, said at a press conference: ‘We saw some things at the home which were concerning to us.
‘We believe now, after we’ve processed that crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime.’
The Sheriff told the Daily Mail: ‘We believe she was forced to leave that residence. It was against her will.’
He went on: ‘This is about an 84-year-old woman who is sick, who needs her medications, who in the middle of the night was taken from her bedroom.
‘If she is alive, she needs her medication and it’s been well over 24 hours. That in itself could be fatal, and that’s scary.’
On Instagram, Savannah said: ‘Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant.
‘Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.
‘We need you.’
Savannah, 54, was due to co-host NBC’s Olympic coverage from Milan, but has pulled out of the appearance.
This is a breaking story, more to follow.
