Ukraine is actively engaged in discussions with the United States regarding a minerals agreement, as stated by a spokesman from the foreign ministry on Friday.
On Wednesday, the White House indicated that it had progressed beyond merely establishing an economic minerals deal framework and was now concentrating on achieving peace between Ukraine and Russia. President Donald Trump mentioned on Thursday that the U.S. would soon finalize the minerals and natural resources agreement with Ukraine.
“Ukraine was even prepared to sign the agreement in Jeddah,” spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi remarked during a briefing, referencing the recent discussions between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia and the upcoming talks scheduled there.
He noted that the U.S. delegation had requested further consultations in Washington regarding the deal, which Trump views as a means to reciprocate for the support provided to Kyiv since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

Tykhyi mentioned that the teams are maintaining ongoing dialogue but refrained from commenting on media speculation that the U.S. intends to modify the terms of the previously agreed draft, which includes the establishment of a reconstruction investment fund linked to the sale of Ukraine’s minerals.
“If the American side has additional proposals on how to finalize this document and proceed, those should be discussed at the level of the teams involved,” Tykhyi stated.
The White House has proposed that the U.S. could assist in managing and potentially owning Ukrainian nuclear power facilities. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy denied on Thursday that he and Trump had talked about the possibility of American ownership.
