Walkers permanently axes two crisp flavours but introduces two ‘perfect’ new ones

When it comes to crisp flavours, Walkers has tried it all.

Over the years, they’ve capitalised and innovated on a whole host of British cuisines, from Fish and Chips to Sausage Sarnie and even Cheese Toastie with Heinz Beanz.

But sometimes, good things have to come to an end, which the cult British brand has proven in discontinuing two flavours.

It’s time to get the tissues out, because Walkers has indeed axed both of its Pizza Hut MAX products: the beloved Texan BBQ and Pepperoni Feast. Sob.

The Texan BBQ and Pepperoni Feast flavours were first launched as part of a partnership with Pizza Hut in 2023 – and garnered plenty of compliments from crisp fanatics over the last two years.

Over on Facebook, the ‘Crazy Bout Crisps’ page praised the selection when they were first released, writing that both ‘have the usual level of MAX crunch,’ being ‘soft yet crunchy at the same time.’

‘The Pepperoni Feast crisps have a really thick and smoky Pepperoni taste, with plenty of Smoked Paprika and Onion, that leaves a tiny tingle on your tongue as you eat them,’ they added, while they described the Texan BBQ as a ‘more fragrant affair.’

Meanwhile, on Reddit, @Independent_Photo_19 said that the first time they tried them, they were ‘so impressed’ with the Texan BBQ flavour that they wondered ‘why no one was talking about it.’

It’s not all sad news, though, as it’s subsequently made room for two new combinations: the Walkers MAX Chicken Kebab and Walkers MAX GDK Beef Kebab, launched in collaboration with restaurant chain German Doner Kebab.

GDK made humble beginnings in Berlin back in 1989, and there are now locations across the UAE, Sweden, Canada, the US, and Saudi Arabia, as well as around 170 in the UK.

Both flavours are sold in 140g bags and retail for £2.40 at Spar. They’re also stocked at Home Bargains and Iceland.

A spokesperson for Walkers told Metro: ‘We recently said goodbye to our two Pizza Hut Walkers MAX Flavours, Texan BBQ and Pepperoni Feast.

‘Continuously evolving our portfolio allows us to create more exciting flavours for our crisp fans, like our recently launched limited-edition Walkers MAX German Doner Kebab flavours.’

It goes without saying that crisp connoisseurs have already picked up on these new GDK editions. Sampling the chicken edition, TikToker @thebrummiefoodreviews reckoned that ‘apart from the slight heat kick, the flavour isn’t too far off’ a traditional doner kebab.

‘Very very flavoursome. Not lacking in flavour whatsoever,’ he added, noting that the crunch was ‘perfect.’

Elsewhere, @pntato wrote: ‘doner kebab in crisps?! Another level.’

‘Best crisps I have tasted in a while, wow,’ he said, giving it a strong 8.5 out of 10. ‘Absolutely delicious. Go and buy them.’

That’s not all. As part of the launch, fans have the opportunity to use a discount code at a GDK restaurant, which will entitle them to a 2-for-1 deal, applicable to both dine-in and takeaway options.

All they need to do is scan the QR code, register online, and enter their pack code, which will then generate a unique discount code. Anyone for a round of kebabs?
