Conkers might be the cutest character on The Masked Singer this year, but who is behind the mask?
They’ve made it all the way to the final and stolen the panel’s hearts along the way (despite being a little spikey on first impression).
The fan favourite even gave some real conkers to a surprised Joel Dommett on their first appearance.
Their voice isn’t so bad either, with Conkers giving us a rendition of Myles Smith’s Nice To Meet You in their stage debut.
Their first VT was packed with clues about castles, knights, and even some ghosts, but the panel were still baffled.
So, with everyone from Martin Freeman to Mark Ronson mentioned, here are all the clues you need to know.
What clues are there for Conkers’ identity?
The knightly theme is very overt for Conkers, but there are plenty more clues they’ve given us so far.
- In their first VT, the song was Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran, as footage showed a castle (you’ll never guess where)
- They said they were ‘up for any challenge’ but admitted they also have a tendency to ‘hide in a shell’ – could this celeb be a little shy?
- Maya Jama pointed out a more specific reference to Sir Lancelot, one of King Arthur’s knights. Is this a nod to BBC series Merlin?
- Adding some tough talk, they said ‘ghosts don’t scare me’.
- In their second VT, the camera panned to a picture of Abz from Five – leading the panel to think it was somebody with good abs.
- They’re also ‘no stranger to secrets, scandals and shock reveals’. Do we think this could make them a journalist of some kind?
- There was reference to a ‘knees up’ and ‘Sam’s Tavern’ – is it somebody associated with a good old boozer?
- ‘As a knight of the realm, this Conker must show I’ll be there no matter the danger… as long as it isn’t too scary.’
- An Italian cookbook appears with ‘Webster’s on it.
- ‘I’m ready to tackle the next stage of the tournament’, they say, but ask for ‘extra time.’
- ‘Places in this competition are strictly limited’ – someone who has been on Strictly?
- ‘Be brave, be bold.’
- ‘This Conker is not afraid of some healthy competition.’
- ‘I’m a hard nut to crack’ – could be a boxer?
- ‘This time, I’m keeping the answers to myself.’
- Says their name will ‘live on’, so is it someone with a legacy?
- Someone with a ‘plan’ and an ‘attitude’.
- ‘You go big, I go bigger’ – a Big Brother reference?
- References ‘live action’ – perhaps a live TV presenter?
- ‘Getting cold feet.’
- ‘This Conker is on a quest for the holy grail.’
- ‘Made a splash in the competition’ – could this be a swimmer … or a diver? Or someone who appeared on the 2013 reality series Splash!
- ‘It will crush me to come a cropper now.’
- Someone who has ‘borne witness to great events in history’.
- Made a pun about being a ‘Sir’.
- Gold, silver, and bronze stars appeared above their head – are they a triple medal Olympian
- Eagles featured in VT – a connection to flying, or could they be ski jumper Eddie the Eagle?
Who could Conkers on The Masked Singer be?
Kiell Smith-Bynoe
Focusing on their references to ghosts, Maya gave a really inspired guess with Kiell Smith-Bynoe.
The actor is best known for starring in BBC’s Ghosts, which ran from 2019 to 2023, as Mike Cooper, who moves into the haunted house.
He’s also appeared in plenty of comedy shows like Stath Lets Flats and, most recently, Mitch and Webb Aren’t Helping.
Could Kiell be behind the mask?
Mark Ronson
Mo Gilligan left the context clues behind and went in on Conkers’ verbal hints during the first VT.
With comments like ‘hit the mark’ lingering in the panel’s minds, a famous Mark was bound to be guessed — so which mark has more hits than Mark Ronson?
‘Hiding in my shell’ could have been a hint that this was someone behind the scenes, such as a producer or a DJ who lets others shine on his tracks.
His song Uptown Funk has even been featured previously, with Blob singing the famed track in series two.
Santiago Cabrera
We’ve not seen anyone say this yet, but this might be a truly unhinged suggestion from Metro. Stay with us here, but could Conkers be Santiago Cabrera?
The actor is best known for starring in BBC’s beloved Arthurian series, Merlin, as none other than Sir Lancelot.
Okay, we realise the clues are rarely that straightforward but he did also appear in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) as Winona Ryder’s dead husband, Richard.
This could be why there are all the ghost clues… no? Just us? Well, if we’re right, you heard it here first.
Jamie Laing
As if having a baby wasn’t enough to keep Jamie Laing busy… Mo thinks he’s the one performing as Conkers on the show.
Allusions to food and feasting make Mo think of Jamie’s Candy Kittens business, and the phrase ‘drama awaits you’ could have been a nod towards Jamie’s days on Made in Chelsea.
One of the clues given by Joel at the end of Conkers’ second appearance on the show made a reference to ‘Mr Fairhead’.
Could it be a hint pointing at Jamie’s bleached blonde hair?
As competition heated up, Mo doubled down on the Jamie guess and said, ‘You are smashing it. You’re a real party person. I think you’re someone from Made in Chelsea.’
Pointing towards the ‘Places in the competition being strictly limited’ clue, meaning someone who was on Strictly, he declared: ‘I think you might be Jamie Laing.’
Adam Peaty
We saw some swimming trunks in the VT, leading Freddie to think of swimmer Adam Peaty.
This suggestion got a very big cheer from the crowd.
The ‘knees up’ reference also prompted the former cricketer to think dancing rather than drinking – Adam has been on Strictly Come Dancing, which led to him meeting his now wife, Holly Ramsay.
He’s also a fair-haired fella – making us think Freddie could be onto something.
Wayne Bridge
Maya put out a rogue suggestion when she moved away from actors and TV stars towards footballer Wayne Bridge.
She thinks it’s someone who has done Soccer Aid or potentially a professional footballer.
Her reasoning for Wayne specifically? She noticed how Conker’s character is ‘always around castles’ in their VTs.
‘You get to a castle by going over the bridge… Wayne Bridge.’
Roman Kemp
If we’re thinking about Soccer Aid, Roman Kemp also falls into that group of potential stars, as he’s done it twice!
Jonathan suggested the Italian cookbook in one of the VTs could be a nod to the country’s capital, Rome… get it? Roman.
His parents, Shirlie Holliman and Martin Kemp, were previously unmasked as the first-ever duo Cat & Mouse.
Josh Widdicombe
Mo thinks it’s ‘someone who might have been on a comedy show with a bit of competition’ who ‘also has links to royalty’, throwing out panel show star Josh’s name.
Tom Daley
Davina is convinced Conkers is a ‘sports personality’ as they are ‘obviously athletic’ with how they move around constantly.
Noting how Conkers said, ‘Think I’m spinning you a yarn,’ she connected this to gold medallist Tom Daley, who is famous for knitting and even hosted a knitting competition show.
A later clue about ‘getting cold feet’ might also reference his diving career, as could many nods to medals and winning.
Tom also appeared on the short-lived reality series Splash! as the expert mentor, which could have been referenced by the ‘making a splash’ clue.
Other guesses
Conker really has left the panel’s heads spinning as Jonathan Ross playfully suggested Usain Bolt.
After Conkers’ second appearance, Jonathan had changed his guess to Bradley Walsh – two slightly different characters.
Who has been revealed so far on Masked Singer?
- Gargoyle – Marcella Detroit
- Yak – John Lydon
- Teabag – Professor Green
- Disc Jockey – Alex Jones
- Arctic Fox – Anton Du Beke
- Monkey Business – Kate Nash
- Red Panda – Harry Hill
- Mole-Dommett – Olly Murrs
- Sloth – Ben Fogle
- Can of Worms – Marvin Humes
Guest judge Matt Lucas, who was unveiled midway through episode two, guessed broadcaster and former tennis pro Andrew Castle, or someone who worked with him, like Andy Peters.
Maya thinks ‘Sam’s Tavern’ is a reference to Sam Thompson, and is guessing the ex-Made in Chelsea star is behind the mask.
The Masked Singer final airs on Saturday at 7pm on ITV1.
