Wike-Backed PDP Names Sandy Onor Consensus Presidential Candidate For 2027

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has named Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The announcement was made in Abuja by former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who chaired the party’s presidential primary collation committee.

Ortom said: “Onor emerged as the candidate after consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across the states.”

According to the faction, consultations were held with party members across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory before the decision was reached.

“The committee consulted party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary of the PDP faction, later presented Onor with a certificate of return and the party’s flag at the event in Abuja.

The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including national commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Rhoda Gumus.

“Abdullahi Zuru and Rhoda Gumus, national commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission, monitored the exercise.”

The development follows the screening of Onor as the faction’s sole presidential aspirant earlier this month alongside 25 governorship aspirants from 17 states.

The screening exercise took place at the PDP Legacy House in Abuja on May 15.
