WWE legend Dennis ‘Loverboy’ Condrey has died at the age of 74, according to fellow wrestler Dax Harwood.
Tributes from the wrestling word have poured in for the star, who is best known for forming one half of one of the greatest tag teams of all time with Bobby Eaton during the 1980s.
Condrey’s close friend Harwood announced his death on Friday, sharing an emotional tribute on Instagram.
No cause of death has been announced yet.
Calling Condrey a ‘true pioneer of professional wrestling’, Harwood wrote a touching post.
‘I loved that man and I’ll do everything I possibly can over the next few years I have left in the business, to keep his and the Midnight Express’ spirit alive,’ he said.
‘They paved this road so all other tag teams could walk easier.’
The wrestler added that Condrey would often share advice that helped Harwood identify areas which he could improve.
‘That is something that’ll never be lost on me. One of my heroes loved me enough to take time out of his day to let me know how proud he was of me,’ Harwood said.
Harwood also revealed that the late wrestler’s wife had given the green light to set up a GoFundMe page to cover the funeral costs and bills she is now handling on her own.
Condrey, who was nicknamed ‘Loverboy’, shot to fame in the the late 70s and 80s as one half of the Midnight Express with Bobby Eaton.
Describing the duo, Harwood said: ‘I can tell you with absolute honesty and sincerity, I’ve never seen a better Tag Team than Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton.’
After making his debut in 1973, Condrey went on to compete for a number of different promotions before retiring from in-ring competition in 2011.
Hailing his near four decade career, All Elite Wrestling posted on X: ‘The wrestling world are mourning the passing of ‘Loverboy’ Dennis Condrey, one half of the legendary Midnight Express.
‘Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends and fans during this difficult time.’
Also writing on X, Sportskeeda Wrestling said: ‘Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.’
