No the Hardy Boyz aren’t dead, despite what you may have read online.

WWE icons Matt, 51, and Jeff Hardy, 48, are still going strong after more than three decades, but the duo were the subject of a bizarre death hoax on social media this week.

A fake Facebook account posing as Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg falsely claimed the current TNA Wrestling tag team champs had died, and the post was shared over 1,000 times with many more fans commenting on the tribute.

Despite the page typically using AI images to spark engagement, it seems enough people were fooled to force Matt to release a statement on Thursday shutting down the rumours.

With a hint of his Broken persona, Matt shared an Instagram video with screenshots of the hoax, and said: ‘They’ve tried to kill the Hardys off for years.

‘Ladies and gentleman, the rumours are not true. The Hardy Boyz are not dead because Matt and Jeff Hardy will not die!’

Ever the professional, Matt used the ordeal to hype up the Hardys’ match on last night’s TNA show.

‘We are both alive and well and we will be featured tonight in the main event of TNA IMPACT that starts at 9 pm ET on AMC,’ he added.

‘We will be teaming up reluctantly with The Righteous. We will be taking on those jackasses, The System. Righteous, this is your one opportunity to make things right, and if you betray us, if you turn on us, you’re gong to FAFO. F**k around and find out.’

In the comments, Matt apologised if he scared anyone with his post, but insisted he had to speak out after being sent his own obituary dozens of times.

He wrote: ‘Sorry to frighten anyone, but that FB post of my obituary has been sent to me 100 times today & I wanted to let everyone know it was false. It won’t be my ghost tonight on TNA iMPACT at 9pm on @amc_tv – It’s the alive & well Matt Hardy!’

Their match on Thursday saw the Hardy Boyz teaming with The Righteous duo of Vincent and Dutch to take on the quartet of Brian Myers, Eddie Edwards, Cedric Alexander, and Bear Bronson.

At the end of the bout, Vincent shoved Matt out of harms way to take a Boston Knee Party from Edwards, which gave The System the win.

Matt and Jeff are loving getting to work with The Righteous, who were meant to be paired with the late, great Bray Wyatt in WWE before plans changed months before the legendary wrestler’s death aged 32 in August 2023.

‘Windham would have loved to have been able to sink his teeth into Vinnie and Dutch, no doubt,’ Matt exclusively told Metro earlier this month.

‘The thing I really enjoy the most about them is how committed they are to the bit, and that’s what’s important whenever you’re playing a character in pro wrestling.

‘You really have to become that character, especially when the red light is on.’

Meanwhile, the duo are not only alive and well, but they could end up back on WWE TV.

‘We’re in constant negotiations with WWE about doing some more stuff,’ Matt told us. ‘We will do more with them.’
