Zara McDermott gave a health update for fans, revealing she’d been ‘conscious’ of a small oddity in her armpit as she headed for a scan.
The former Love Islander, 29, had booked in for a full MRI to check in with her body, having previously been diagnosed with osteoporosis.
‘I wouldn’t say I’m massively health anxious as such,’ she explained in a new YouTube vlog. ‘I’m not health anxious, I’m … Health conscious.’
While the scan was more for peace of mind, Zara did reveal she planned to ask the doctor about a tiny ‘not a lump’ she had found.
‘I also have had this tiny little, it’s not a lump, under like my armpit. I don’t know if it’s like a gland or something,’ she shared on the way to the appointment.
‘Anyway, I’m going to ask them to scan that and check it. I slept not that well tonight, so I am a tired girlie today.’
Zara and her friend Daisy (unseen on camera but likely boyfriend Louis Tomlinson’s sister) had been discussing the scan over Christmas so decided to book in.
‘We were talking about preventative health and getting on our A-game this year, and we got onto the subject of these scans. Both of us were like “Let’s do it together”,’ said Zara.
She added they had seen the scans advertised on Instagram and it had taken a month to actually get booked in, but she was ‘looking forward to the results’.
Dressed in some scrubs, the Strictly Come Dancing star said it was a ‘nice, clean, simple experience.’
Zara’s first health concerns started in 2023 when she had to adapt her lifestyle due to early signs of osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a health condition that weakens bones, making them fragile and easier to break. It develops slowly over several years, and is often diagnosed after a fall or injury, which causes a break.
In December that year, she was hospitalised after needing treatment to help heal a fracture in her tibia.
‘The good news is that there is some small evidence of healing! Yay!’, she shared at the time. ‘However, the bone surrounding the fracture is under a lot of tension/pressure… whatever that means.
‘Surgery is still an option, but I’ve opted for the most natural route, which is to try and help it heal on its own.’
Patients with osteoporosis may need serious surgery, including metal screws and plates, to fuse the bone back together.
She was on crutches for a time to allow her body to heal, saying at the time she was ‘hoping this is the beginning of the end now.’
This December looked very different, with new man Louis whisking her away on a lowkey holiday to celebrate her birthday.
‘The best birthday ever with you ❤️🎄✨🪵 & the final year of my 20’s !! [sic]’, she wrote at the time, sharing a selfie of them together in a field.
The lovebirds were first linked in March 2025, following her shock split from podcaster Sam Thompson, 33.
After almost a year together, the pair are still going strong with Zara recently praising Louis’ new album.
‘Proud is an understatement,’ she said as the former One Direction icon landed his number one chart position.
