Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s son Maddox has reportedly dropped his dad’s surname in the credits for his latest film.
Following in the footsteps of some of his other siblings, 24-year-old Maddox was credited simply as ‘Maddox Jolie’ for his work on mum Angelina’s new movie, Couture.
Maddox served as an assistant director on the upcoming film, which stars Oscar-winner Angelina, 50, as an American director who is diagnosed with breast cancer as she arrives in France to work on a video for Paris Fashion Week.
The movie is written and directed by Disorder and Proxima filmmaker Alice Winocour and also stars Louis Garrell, Ella Rumpf and Raw actress Garance Marillier.
It’s a project that Angelina has a personal connection to, having undergone a double mastectomy in 2013 after learning that she had an 87% risk of developing breast cancer due to a defective BRCA1 gene.
Angelina’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of cancer at the age of 56 in 2007, while her grandmother and aunt also died from cancer.
Couture was released in France on February 18, with People Magazine confirming that Maddox’s name is listed as Maddox Jolie in the final credits.
The outlet also says that when Couture premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2025, production notes sent to journalists for the film also showed his name listed as Maddox Jolie.
This is in contrast to Maddox’s previous most recent credit, which was 2024 drama Maria and also starred his mum – this time as the late, great opera diva Maria Callas – and was directed by Pablo Larraín.
Both Maddox and his younger brother Pax, 22, worked as set production assistants on Maria and were credited with their ‘Jolie-Pitt’ surname.
Angelina and Brad, who married in 2014 before separating in 2016, share four further children: Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Vivienne also worked alongside her mum, helping her produce Broadway show The Outsiders in May 2024; in the Playbill programme for it she was listed simply as ‘Vivienne Jolie’.
Meanwhile, Zahara joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in November 2023 as Zahara Markey Jolie, which is how she introduced herself in a video posted online from a luncheon to mark the occasion, which Angelina also attended.
And Shiloh went one step further, filing paperwork to legally change her name to Shiloh Jolie on her 18th birthday.
A source told People that Brad was ‘aware and upset’ of the change at the time.
‘He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter,’ the source said.
‘The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad,’ they added.
She was born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt in 2006, nearly a year after the former couple, dubbed Brangelina, started dating.
Shiloh later announced her intention via a legal notice in The Los Angeles Times, per California law, with the change later granted in August 2024.
The following May she appeared to have pivoted slightly again, appearing at the launch of Isabel Marant’s capsule collection with Net-A-Porter, where she was listed as ‘Shi Joli’ in the event’s press release, according to US Weekly.
