Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon confirms ITV soap future as Bethany

The Platts are a troubled bunch in Coronation Street currently.

While David and Shona (Jack P Shepherd and Julia Goulding) are blissfully unaware, Shona’s twisted sister Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) is actively trying to annihilate everything they hold dear, infiltrating and slowly poisoning their family unit.

Sarah (Tina O’Brien) is deeply ensconced in her best friend Todd Grimshaw’s (Gareth Pierce) horrific abuse ordeal at the hands of boyfriend and tormentor, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).

Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) is wrapped up with his son Sam Blakeman’s (Jude Riordan) turn to drugs after a campaign of terror waged against him by paedophile Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon).

Bethany Platt, on the other hand, has had a quiet run of things lately, but fear not, Lucy Fallon has confirmed that she’ll be sticking around for the long run.

On potentially leaving the show, she told The Mirror: ‘I’ve done that once before, I don’t plan on doing it again. You get periods of time where you’re not in — I’m not very busy there at the moment, which has been really nice because I get to spend time with Sonny and Nancy.’

‘But in a few weeks’ time, I’m going to be busy again,’ she promised, teasing a new storyline for Bethany.

Bethany vs Jodie?

Viewers have recently seen Bethany become the first Platt family member to become increasingly cautious of Jodie, who’s behaviour has increased from sinister to downright bizarre.

Breaking into Bernie Winter’s (Jane Hazelgrove) house and cutting her face out of her wedding pictures and stealing Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) treasured book, the Woman in White, Jodie has been keeping the strange items in a ‘trophy box’, which, thus far, only Lily (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) has discovered.

Bethany, though, has been deeply creeped out by Jodie, especially when she ‘discovered’ Shona’s ‘lost’ wedding ring at home, despite Shona being adamant that it was lost in the salon, voicing her concerns about the shady newcomer to Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon).

With Jodie’s backstory still shrouded in mystery and Bethany the only Platt that smells a rat, could she be the one to expose Shona’s scheming sister? Or will she find herself another victim of Jodie’s insane machinations?

While fans salivate over the potential clash, Lucy also opened up about her life away from the cobbles.

Lucy on motherhood

Opening up about being a mum-of-two, Lucy said of her children: ‘They’re great, but they’re such a handful — especially Sonny at the moment, he’s got the terrible twos a little bit late, I’d say!

‘As they say, it takes a village and luckily, we have a village. I know we’re privileged — not everybody gets that luxury. My mum and Ryan’s mum help out a lot. We take the help where we can get it!’

On the transition of being a mum of one to a mum of two, Lucy said: ‘I think going from zero to one was easier.

‘I think it’s the age gap as well — Sonny was still a baby when I had Nancy, and while it’s so lovely and seeing how they interact now, the juggle of having a toddler, a baby and work is quite hard.

How does Lucy feel about adding a third little cherub to their nest?

‘Ryan and I don’t have any plans to have any more. I’m completely out of that baby stage and I’ll never get it back.

‘You grieve that little section of life. I remember when Sonny turned four weeks old, I hysterically sobbed because I was like, ‘Oh no, he’s a month old, and now he’s three!’ It goes so quickly — you’ve just got to enjoy every stage because you’ll never get that version of them again’
