Amazon Prime’s new South Korean thriller tagline teases, ‘If you love her, you die’… and you can watch this feminist tale just in time for International Women’s Day.

The premise is straight out of a praying mantis playbook. The alluring art auctioneer Han Seol-ah (Park Min-young) becomes wrapped up in the middle of an investigation, because her three past fiancés have all dropped like flies.

The person looking into the series of unfortunate circumstances is insurance fraud investigator Cha Woo-seok, played by Wi Ha-joon, who Squid Game fans will recognise as the diligent copper searching for his nefarious brother’s island.

Woo-seok’s reputation precedes him, with stellar instincts that have clinched him the industry’s top arrest record for life-insurance fraud for some years.

So when he receives a mysterious call from an informant, claiming to have evidence of a fraud-related murder, and the caller falls to her death before she can share the crucial tip, he knows something is afoot.

Could the motive for the deaths be a case of insurance fraud?

Woo-seok decides to go undercover to find out the truth of what happened to Seol-ah’s past lovers, faking a relationship with her to try and get to the bottom of it.

But as the romantic thriller unfolds, he might have bitten off more than he can chew and it begins to look like Woo-seok might be the fourth in Seol-ah’s tally.

Amazon Prime has teased the Cho Hyun-kyung-created show as a ‘perilous psychological game’ with an ‘irresistible yet deadly attraction at its core’.

Reviews of the show are currently thin on the ground since it is set to drop on the platform late this evening, in line with Korean Standard Time.

But the Guardian wrote of Siren’s Kiss: ‘A creepy South Korean thriller that explores the line between lust and obsession, via the medium of the high-end art market.’
