I have struggled to nail the slick back bun for a while. Now, I know that may confuse a lot of people (namely Gen Z), but it’s because a lot of fringe will poke out and I look like the penguin Lovelace in Happy Feet (IYKYK) by the end of the day.
I have trialled numerous products in a bid to get my hair to stay pinned back, but to no avail. I have left my hair wet and slicked it back, but as the day goes on and my hair starts to dry those frays start to come out to play.
Oils and serums don’t seem to do the trick either, as my layers poke out, or my hair looks greasy. While many advised me to do the hair on day two to four after wash day when my hair is greasy it still doesn’t work, or my scalp starts to hurt because of the build-up of sebum.
But, after much trial and error I have found the solution for like-minded girlies struggling with the sleek updo – Bed Head’s Hair Wax Stick.
Bed Head by TIGI Hair Wax Stick
Formulated from natural waxes, including beeswax and Japan wax, as well as castor oil and lavender, for a clean and fresh scent. This strong-hold formula slicks any baby hairs or flyaways down in an instant, it lasts for hours on end, but is lightweight and doesn’t weigh down the hair.
The Wax Stick is my saving grace, and I’d be lost without it. In just one sweep those fine baby hairs, even the pesky greys sprouting, are glued down. But the wax is not greasy, doesn’t weigh down my hair, or leave my tresses feeling like glue.
This strong-hold hair hero has been formulated from natural waxes, which includes beeswax and Japan wax, as well as castor oil, which combine to add texture, provide a strong hold, but also fight frizz and nourish the hair without the product weighing down my locks.
The wax has also been infused with a lavender fragrance that leaves your hair smelling fresh – even if it has been one week since you washed it.
While I love its strong hold and lasting power, I am also impressed with how Bed Head’s wax doesn’t leave any residue, cause any of the product to flake off after hours of wear, or leave my hair crunchy. Instead, this product offers a smooth, non-sticky, and semi-matte finish.
The wax is also soft and flexible, so you can apply using your fingertips, which is great if you are trying to perfect plaits or certain styles, though I simply sweep it on from the tube.
The wax needs to be pushed up from the base of the tube, and swept on the targeted area, which makes it a mess-free hair product.
While it boasts a strong hold, it is easy to brush out so you can rework your hairstyle with ease too. Have you ever known such a multifunctional hair product? I think not.
It can be applied on wet or dry hair. Plus, a little goes a long way. I have had this hair wax for a number of months, and still haven’t made a dent in it, so I think it will last me a few years. If you do the maths, the cost per use is minimal.
I’m not one to gatekeep products I love, but after a number of friends mentioned my hair looked super sleek when I pinned it up, I had to share my go-to.
Turns out, I’m not the only fan of Bed Head’s hair wax, as it has garnered over 20,000 reviews from Amazon shoppers.
One customer, named Bhavana, shared: ‘Best for flyaways….it holds your hair without feeling sticky.’
AJ added: ‘As a product, it’s a really good hair stick. It holds my thick hair all day. It’s convenient and easy to use.’
While Shenaz weighed in: ‘This product is very easy to use, simply open it apply in a sweeping motion directly on the hair and it stays down. I’ve never used a hair wax before and it is great … It really works excellently well at laying down baby hairs and fly away hairs especially for when your hair is up in a ponytail or bun.’
Did we almost forget to mention it’s under £10? Bargain.
