It turns out the drama doesn’t stop when the cameras do. Hollyoaks star Oscar Curtis has found himself at the centre of a very real-life storyline after being rushed to hospital during a trip abroad, and it all started with a monkey.
Oscar, who plays troubled teen Lucas Hay on the long-running Channel 4 soap, is currently soaking up the sights and culture of Mumbai. The young actor has been sharing snippets of his holiday with fans on Instagram, posting snaps and giving followers a glimpse into his adventures on the other side of the world.
But what began as a wholesome wildlife moment quickly took a turn.
In one clip shared to his Instagram Stories, Oscar could be seen feeding a group of monkeys, looking pretty relaxed about the whole thing. Unfortunately, things escalated fast. In a follow-up post, he revealed exactly what happened next, writing (via Daily Mail): ‘Moments before the little sh*t bit me and I had to go to hospital for rabies jabs’
Not quite the souvenir you want to bring home from your travels.
Getting bitten by a monkey is no small matter, especially in a country where rabies precautions are taken seriously. Thankfully, Oscar acted quickly and headed straight to the hospital for the necessary injections. Fans were understandably concerned when they saw the update, but he soon reassured everyone that the situation was under control.
The actor later confirmed he was ‘all good’ and that he did not have rabies. Crisis averted.
And in true show must go on fashion, it doesn’t look like the hospital visit slowed him down for long. Oscar was back to posting holiday content shortly after, clearly determined not to let one rogue monkey derail his trip.
‘Past couple days have been eventful, happy holi,’ he captioned his next post, referencing the vibrant festival of colours being celebrated across India. Despite the unexpected detour to A&E, he seemed to be in high spirits.
Fans flooded the comments with supportive messages. One wrote: ‘You deserve a break after your amazing work.’ Another added: ‘Great pictures mate! I’m so happy you’re enjoying your time away. I can’t wait to see Lucas back in Hollyoaks this week – it’s not been the same without him.’
While Oscar is clearly embracing sunshine and new experiences abroad, things couldn’t be more different for his on-screen alter ego back in Chester.
