Just 24 hours after meeting her boyfriend in person for the first time, Dani Scott was engaged.
The waitress met Jake, 24, online after he left a comment on one of her YouTube videos, saying she’d inspired him.
They ‘clicked instantly’ and began chatting over emails in December 2025, before moving on to phone calls.
As Jake lives in America and Dani is based in Galashiels, Scotland, they started their relationship without ever having met in person.
But just a few months later, in February 2026, Jake popped the question, getting down on one knee after travelling 4,000 miles to meet Dani for the very first time.
Despite how fast things are moving, Dani says she’s over the moon at the proposal, and the couple plan to tie the knot in summer 2027.
Speaking to Talk To The Press, Dani said: ‘I met Jake through YouTube, a month after splitting from my fiancé, who I broke up with a few weeks before our wedding.
‘We both made videos about dumbphones and started chatting. After a few phone calls, we decided we liked each other, and we started dating a week after our first call, even though we’d never met in person.

‘He’s very gentle, kind, and really into nature. We just instantly clicked.
‘I like that he sees the world differently from other people.’
Dani claims Jake’s 12-day visit to Scotland was ‘amazing’ and the ‘best’ time of her life
‘The day after we met, Jake proposed whilst we were on a walk. I knew it was going to happen, but it was still so exciting.’
However, not everyone was quite so thrilled with the engagement, with her family and friends voicing concerns – especially as it had only been four months since Dani split with her ex-fiancé and called off their wedding.
‘Some friends think getting engaged again is a bit soon,’ she admits. ‘And some friends didn’t even know I’d broken up with [my ex], so they are quite confused.
‘People’s judgment does upset me sometimes, but I think over time people will get more used to the idea, as they will see that I’m actually happy.’
She adds that her family has ‘come round to the relationship now’.
Dani met her ex at university in 2024, where they both studied theology, and they too embarked on a whirlwind romance, getting engaged within six months of dating.
They had planned to get married in September 2025, but as their nuptials approached, they realised something wasn’t right.
‘He wasn’t happy, and I wasn’t happy,’ Dani explains.
They postponed the ceremony and tried to make things work for a few more months, but ultimately decided to go their separate ways in October 2025, cancelling the wedding completely.
‘I was actually really relieved,’ she says.
Two months later, Jake left a comment under one of her videos, asking for her email, and they began messaging back and forth all day.
Their relationship became serious from the very first phone call, as they decided then and there they’d be getting married someday.
Part of the reason for the haste is that Dani wants to move to the US. She believes the visa application process could take over a year, and during this time, she won’t be able to visit the United States.
This means the first time she goes to America will be for her wedding in 2027.
Dani is finding it difficult doing long-distance until then, but thankfully, Jake is still able to visit her, and he’s planned another trip for April, which will be the second time they’ve met in person.
He’ll then aim to travel to the UK every few months until the wedding.
Unfortunately, her family won’t be able to attend their big day due to costs, but the couple hopes to have a party in Scotland too, to celebrate with her relatives.
