Rugby star and Celebrity Traitors finalist Joe Marler was left cringing after Sir Stephen Fry made an OnlyFans statement to the cast of Celebrity Traitors.

The actor and writer was on Joe Marler Will See You Now, a podcast where the ex-England player acts as a ‘pseudo psychologist’ with his celebrity guests.

Speaking to his faux client this week, Marler playfully said he wanted to make Fry ‘a little bit naughty’ and bring him ‘back into criminality’.

He proceeded to consult with his research assistant, comedy creator Jake Bhardwaj, who suggested the national treasure ‘commit identity fraud’.

It was then decided that Sir Stephen would impersonate Marler on their group WhatsApp chat with the cast of Celebrity Traitors.

The Blackadder actor relished the opportunity to play a prank and wrote: ‘”My dears, I’m considering an OnlyFans site, I haven’t told you this but I love to flash my junk. Is this a stupid idea?”‘

Before Sir Stephen revealed plans for the message he was going to write, Marler expressed his fears: ‘I can’t tell you how nervous I am.’

Sir Stephen jokingly reassured him: ‘Oh, it’s something you’ll probably want to do anyway so it’s not really a bad thing.’

After sending the message, Marler was left squirming in his chair with his head in his hands.

Fits of laughter erupted in the studio, including from assistant Jake who teasingly asked: ‘Just to recap, who’s in that group?’

To which Sir Stephen replied: ‘There’s Alan Carr, and Claudia Winkleman, and Celia [Imrie]… Everyone.’

Marler started flapping: ‘What the f*** am I going to do off the back of that mate?’

He then revealed how he normally uses the group chat: ‘My usual is just chiming in every so often, wishing people the best in their latest project or something. Or doing a little GIF, or a little reaction.’

After calming down, Marler admitted: ‘It is actually a really supportive group on there’.

The pair were both on the first season of the BBC spin-off of The Traitors, hosted by Claudia and welcoming celebrities like Cat Burns and Charlotte Church.

Marler got further along in the game than Sir Stephen, who was banished in episode six of the hit show, partly because of the former rugby union player’s doing.

The ‘big dog theory’, spear-headed by Marler, caused the Faithfuls to be suspicious of the broadcaster, who they thought could have been the leader of a pack of Traitors.

In the end Alan won the prize money for charity, but Marler got painstakingly close – only to be voted out by Nick Mohammed at the last minute.

Joe Marler Will See You Now is available to listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and BBC Sounds.
