Little-known Danish furniture store ‘better than IKEA’ with homeware from 75p

It’s fair to say the UK has an obsession with Scandinavian homeware brands.

Ikea is practically a rite of passage when furnishing your first home, while Søstrene Grene has swiftly taken over the high street and is on track for a footprint of 100 stores nationwide by 2027.

But there’s one lesser-known Danish brand blowing up on TikTok, which British shoppers claim is ‘giving Ikea but on trend’, and has prices as low as 75p.

TikToker Ellie Moss recently shared her trip to Jysk (pronounced ‘yusk’), an international home furnishing retailer, which has more than 3,600 stores and webshops in 50 countries.

While there aren’t any Jysk stores in London or the south of England, you’ll find them in the likes of Coventry, Leeds, Stockport, Derby, Bolton and more (or you can order online).

Its first-ever store opened way back in 1979 in Aarhus, Denmark, founded by Lars Larsen, and it’s still part of the family-owned Lars Larsen Group today.

Ellie, a 23-year-old estate agent, visited the Danish homeware store in Warrington after buying her first house to kit the place out.

‘PSA to the girlies buying your first home, run to Jysk,’ she said on TikTok. ‘The prices are insane, they literally sell everything you could imagine, plus so much furniture.

‘I fear everyone needs to go.’

What can you get at Jysk?

In her video, Ellie can be seen looking at picture frames which start from 75p, cushions for £8.50, throws for £3, a set of two wine glasses for £9 and two tumblers for £4.50 – but they have all the furniture staples you need, too.

On the Jysk website, sofas start from just £165, while double bed frames start at just £150. There was even a four-chair dining table set from £100.

Essentially, it’s a store that sells everything you could possibly need to kit out your first home, when it comes to furniture.

Within the store, TikToker Megan Ratcliffe reveals there’s an outlet section in the store, too. ‘It felt like a mini Ikea,’ she says.

She discovered an electric stand-up desk for £85, down from £229.99, and a round dining table for £90, down from the same price.

‘I think a lot of it was either damaged packaging or just a little scratch here and there,’ she adds.

What do shoppers think?

Many sung its praises on TikTok, with commenters saying: ‘It’s actually better than Ikea, but keep that to yourselves,’ while another branded it the ‘Danish Ikea’.

‘It’s so good,’ added another. ‘I got a massive full-length mirror I’d seen everywhere that was like £150 everywhere else and got it for £40, I was buzzing and got a fiver off for my first time.’

‘I worked at Jysk in the past… they have some amazing pieces,’ said one. ‘Garden furniture is extremely nice too, the mattresses are amazing.’

‘Half of my apartment is from there…’ joked another woman.

The catch, you’ll have to spend a minimum of £25, but honestly, there’s so much we’ve got our eyes on.

The ‘insane’ hidden gem furniture shop that's cheaper than Ikea

TikToker Haylii Ann, 21, shared her trip to Furniture Outlet, a hidden gem with locations across Essex and South London.

In the clip, Haylii’s wanders around the giant warehouse packed with discounted furniture, telling the camera: ‘There is everything here – so many sofas, lights, lamps.’

Among the plethora of items on sale, she points out a minimalist white coffee table for £35, another for £45, and a TV stand priced at £49. In comparison, Ikea only has two coffee tables available for less than £50.

These aren’t just one-off items like in a charity shop or thrift store either, as Furniture Outlet sells sets of matching furniture, with items slashed from more than £700 down to £300.

Like at the Swedish retailer, everything available in Furniture Outlet stores can be taken home that same day, but the company also offers local delivery.
